my orchid is growing a orchid.....on the flower spike
Comments (1)Its called a keiki, and it is indeed a new plant. It can be likened to the baby plants that sprout from spider plant stems. Eventually, probably early next spring, it will have sufficient enough roots you will be able to remove it from the mother plant and pot it on its own. Look under the FAQ's at the very first and 2nd question. They can answer some of your questions....See MoreI broke my soil! Please help!
Comments (6)Where are you doing this? Is it possible thats its an old construction site dump? Common practice for years around Colo; dig a hole and bury the construction scrap. I'd sure go for raised beds. Those lumps of clay are workable early in the spring, after a winter of freeze - thaw cycles. A certain moisture level, and the soil can be worked pretty well. You can tell by how easy a clump crumbles, when its just right. Drier soil still works, wetter; you'll make bricks. Welcome to Colorado Clay. We do manage to grow stuff. Better gardening through massive amounts of compost, and it does get better as the years go by....See Morei broke my grandmother's punch bowl - please help!!
Comments (7)If the breaks are clean, you may be able to find someone to fix it. We have a fellow here in Alexandria who is a wizard at repairing old glass pieces. Ask around at antique stores that carry a lot of glass and china pieces. Of course, it won't be usable, but at least it is still your grandmother's bowl. I probably wouldn't replace it with another because it is the sentiment that made it special-unless, of course, she used it frequently. Your mother is a wise woman and your son is lucky to have her as his grandmother!...See MoreIs this a new spike on my Psychopsis orchid?
Comments (20)Thanks DbarronðÂÂÂ, but a psychopsis would actually fall under the Oncidium alliance, which produce sheaths, a phalaenopsis does not have psudobulbs so it don't produce a sheath. But a phal spike would normally come below the third leaf from the top an in the leaf axil. I actually have 32 of them âº, they are my favourite variety. If you don't have any as yet I would suggest you try one, they are easy and the blooms last very long. Thanks again Velleta...See Moreme_171
