Joe - Nah. Not an Amelanchier. Foliage is not quite right, and Amelanchier flowers have skinner petals. Carol - that could be it. Definitely something in the Rosaceae family, I think. My only hesitation is that this garden was neglected for quite some time, is overrun with lonicera (both vines and shrubs), berberis, Euonymus alatus, etc. And these shrubs are covering an entire side of the suburban yard. It looks like they've been there for a while, and they're taking over along with the rest. Has P. villosa been around for a while? Does it show invasive tendencies here?

Thanks--but I don't think it is spirea, despite the flowers. I am wondering... based on a perusal of the library... if it is Symphocarpos orbiculatus (snowberry, coralberry, or Indian currant). Very pretty! We are not snow-bound here. But we have had lows in the teens. One night it was 15. I have yet to venture out to see what was killed. we have not had that low in about 15 years. I would love to grow the large callas like I saw in N. Cal. in 2002. I have a few, but not near as huge as those I saw. I have admired your front yard for years. My problem at this house is lots of spots of shade until late afternoon and then the sun fries so many things. My street curves at just the wrong angle and late sun shines down the middle of the street until my yard. Kathy

The malvaceae one might be Pavonia lasiopetala and the one below is an autumn joy sedum, Hylotelephium.
