wildlife habitat in the garden

When I built my veg garden I put some rocks, concrete etc. in places around the outer border & also planted wildflowers there small shrubs, vines, artichokes. I put some lizards in there. Now I have found gopher snake too. The wildflowers die back & the brush gives cover for the animals, I just leave it be. We dont have poison snakes here. There are mice but cats & snakes eat them. My cat gets upset when she sees a snake. I have also accidentally found that the soil is in better condition where I didnt till in the veg beds(double dug initially) looking forward to never doing that again. I am even leaving the roots from the dead plants in the soil & planting around them. The soil seems to be way better with roots in it. The walkways are all planted in ryegrass. The beds we arent useing are planted in legumes or buckwheat, alfalfa etc. which is cut for mulch/compost purposes. Experimental
