I had a hard time (don't know why!) *coming to terms* with the fact that I need to use lotion--I guess it makes me feel Old Lady or something, haha! What I finally did was to get several bottles and put them all over the place. I've got one bottle on the windowsill in the kitchen, one in my bathroom, on on the nightstand, one in my purse, and the most important, ONE IN THE CAR! Oh, I do also have one in the basement in the bar. If I see them, I'll remember to use them. I've also caved in and started using gloves when I clean the sink/shower/tub. I NEVER used to do this, but it is so worth it when your skin is sensitive. I even started buying the medical-type gloves for doing the dusting. I'm 42 and I think my skin is getting as cranky as I am! My rings have spaces under them that trap water, etc. So, that keeps the skin there wet and causes irritation. I really don't think my problem is an allergy to the metals, the rings are 14K gold and I've worn them for 21 years...although the thought of changing to platinum does appeal! I've also quit wearing them to bed--I need to let my skin breathe. I keep them in the cleaner jar overnight and rinse them in the morning before I put them on. (remember, I'm gunking up my hands with Moisture Therapy every night!) It sounds to me like your issue was a one-time thing brought on by the combination of cracked skin and extended contact with bleach. I would not worry unless the problem continues to recur. Seriously, the best place to put a bottle is in the car. Put some on while you are sitting at (long) red lights, or while you wait in line at the drive-through. My lotion sits right next to the car's bottle of hand sanitizer :) FYI, if you get bleach on your skin again, pour on some lemon juice or vinegar (any mild acid will work) and the bleach will be neutralized.

I guess had I spelled URGENT correctly, I might have gotten responses quicker ;) Well, I ended up trying to remove the paint with mineral sprits which worked. SOME, then used about 1/2 a bottle of shout sprayed on and tossed her in the washer. The once baby blue coat now has a tinge of pink tint all on it's front and the red smear did NOT come out. So now I have a great new painting coat. Woo hoo It was clearly cold enough yesterday that it numbed my brain. oh well. I really thought the wind was NOT blowing it towards, me sure didnt feel that way. Got in the shower later and discovered I also had a red glaze on my face and streaks in my hair. Always wanted to be a red head ;)

Just to point out on this dying thread, that almost any consumer product is carefully formulated/tested to avoid these kind of problems. In our great land of opportunity, liability concerns rule the day. Imagine some fussy housefrau's reaction if a bit of windex overspray killed her precious African Violets. Which always seem to be in the window sills of those kind of people. And furthermore, plants are pretty darn tough. I've been surprised by how high a concentration of bleach I can use on BLE cuttings and observe no apparent toxic affect. Such a solution is harsher for the most part than window cleaning ones.

We just got our new Miele W1/T1 washer and dryer. The dryer had a burnt plastic/chemical smell that seems like it would be toxic (very unpleasant). We left the door open for a day hoping it would air out but it didn't. Ran the first load and the washer did great with the spin cycle (1600 rpm) extracting most water. During drying the burnt rubber smell got a lot worse and the clothes were taking on the smell too so stopped before complete. Checking over things again discovered the plinth filter and found it has the same smell. This is the only place I have found other with the same problem. Looks like @littlegreeny came to the same conclusion. The instructions say the plinth filter can be washed. Has anyone tried that and does it help? Or, what about replacement filters? @pattyjoseffer did you ever solve this? Did it eventually go away itself?
