I'm sure you've read something or other in your paper lately or seen a feel good story on tv. Please share,it's mid January and sloggish and feel good stories are a welcome..at least to me. Here's mine.

A young man in our area whose mother died was pretty much left homeless when their home was sold, so moved into a cheap motel room. He works in the stockroom at Kohls and doesn't make much money. He has 25 cats and what he did was keep them all in his car and spent most of his money on food for them.The car was on it's last leg so he pretty much used it for a cat home. He was reported and arrested for animal cruelty and the cats turned over to the SPCA. They felt sorry for him because the cats were in good health so told him they would keep the cats there as long as they could and he helped pay for their food with what little money he had. Every single day for 6 months,he rode his bike 20 miles one way to the shelter in order to play with his pets..he didn't miss a single day. Anyway..the story got out and the upshot is that someone gave him their van,someone is renting him a couple of rooms on their big farm and his cats,all neutered,have the run of an old barn there. People have donated tons and tons of cat food. Since this place is not too far from the SPCA he now has to drive 20 miles to work everyday,but is looking for work closer to where he is living. He's a decent man,of borderline intelligence who loves his cats and was willing to do everything he could to keep them safe. He touched the hearts of everyone who read this story I think.

Check out pet debates the can you afford medical care for pets, it was an eye opener for me.

A man across the street from me hada guide dog for many years. He loved it too much to replace it when it was too old to really guide him. About 2 months ago he found it dead- of old age and was devastated. Well, I few days I saw him on the street with a new dog that looked like the other. It guided him into a store he went to often- they got a reception you would not believe. The clerks and customers all crowded around them , some hugging him with delight. The dog was wriggling with joy. When I checked out I told the cashier and she was happy for him too. He helps out at the Salvation Army food pantry so I can imagine the reception he got there. That is a VERY lucky dog, it has the perfect owner.

Northerner my favorite flower is a daisy or any type of daisy. Shasta daisy use to be a flower that I really researched out, did you know there is 150 different types of shasta daisy that luther burbank created?? I know that is totally irrelevant but I just had to throw that out there cause most do not realize there is that many different varieties of the plant. Anywho after falling in love with the shasta daisy white knight many years ago and purchasing seed and actually getting germination I was sadly disappointed the second year. Ended up that it was nothing like the white knight I had read about and it looked more like the alaska version. Well after more reading I found a website that actually listed the white knight as an f1 hybrid. Now I do not remember what website I read that on and I do not know if it is true, but it could explain why you had low germination and why I had an alaska look alike. How I actually started my seeds were actually direct sown. I direct sowed them in my unamended clay soil in full sun. I had pretty good germination, I did not do a cold treatment prior. Northener I have currently of the shasta daisy collection, silver princess, alaska, becky, and snow lady. My favorite of the ones I have grown is the becky. She does not flop, she has a long bloom period and she is evergreen here. I plant her anywhere in my yard regardless of shade or full sun and I get great results. The blooms are about 3" in diameter, and they make a great cut flower. I have never had a problem with disease or pest and I am the type of person that hates to drag out a hose so I rarely water so she is also drought resistant. Currently I have a clump that I can dig up that is not budded yet that I would be more than happy to send to you for postage. That is if you are interested. Just email me and we can discuss that further if you want. Oh and after I found that out about the white knight either last year or the year before, I tended to lose interest in the shasta daisy. I just decided I have good faithful becky and I am happy. Now if someone offered me a clump of broadway lights or sunny side up I would probably be on that like gum on the bottom of a shoe, lol. Kinda stupid of them to park those cars in the entrance, wasn't it? They should have left room for the trash collecting truck, the lumber delivery truck, and the truck with the dirt delivery.

That's so thoughtful. It's a significant amount of money and so appreciated. I hope they exchanged names and addresses and keep in touch, and that a special gift is given to the payors, or the money paid back over time.

This story showed up today in the Sunday Paper.
An individual in one of my groups is very much involved in the quilting project. some of you may remember her, she used to go by "Silo Mary" and now posts on the quilting forum as
Mary_c.
Mary has recently began to asked quilters for signed squares, which she will put together and forward to the Veterans Hospitals.
I think it's a great project.

It's not easy to dig through all the gloom and doom and "the sky is falling" so-called news to come up with a jewel (pun intended) of a story.

I feel good that the cabbie was so honest, but not so good about someone as cheap as that woman from Texas.

The cabbie is admirable. May traffic lights always be green for him and future fares give heavy tips.

No wonder the woman didn't want to give her name, her idea of a tip was disgraceful, not distracted... maybe she had a vague idea of how disgusted other people would be with her. And it makes me wonder what she claims on her travel-expense vouchers... Frankly, even the reward seems awfully small... if I were a jewelry store owner, I'd sure be checking to see if she were an employee.
