The top three photos are oak trees seedlings. You say close to the acorns. The germinate out the side. The bottom pic I have no idea. To kill the oak trees.....just mow.

Pics show great looking plants from what I can see. I don't think you have a problem going on. Heat does wilt them & plants should recover in evening. Try not to wet leaves & see if that makes a difference. You could also use mulch - you'll be glad you did. I used to not mulch because of fear of habitat for slugs, but now that I do I can't tell much difference except for plants grow better because kept moist & earthworms love it! I always mulch now as long as soil has warmed in spring 1st. I'm jealous of your melons & peppers fruiting already -- we have had a long, cool spring & very few days of sunshine in western WA. Use something underneath fruits that touch ground - straw or pine mulch, brick, flat rock, black plastic over a mound of soil, piece of board, cardboard, upside down frisbee (so doesn't collect water), upside down pot stuck in soil... The pepper shouldn't rot unless it stays wet. Looks like you could pick & eat then not bother with anything. :o) When's snack time? I'll bring the chive dip. He, he!

Linda, thank you so much - you have given me some great info. I was not familiar with "library table". I've searched but can find no markings on it at all. The bookends have a green felt covering on the bottom but on the side is printed Japan. Nothing else. The spoon is a gold color but no markings. The oval dish/box is very thin and delicate with some hairline cracks in it. Could 10-64 on the bottom refer to a date or is this probably in reference to something else? As for the victorian bedroom set - can you suggest any other info? Is it Eastlake, etc? I've been trying to find something similar with no results. I'm not parting with the other pieces of furniture, but I do need to get rid of this set asap. I would like to try to clean it up a little but not sure if it has any value in this shape. I also thought he might be a display piece. I will upload a picture of the mechanism and plug. The watering can is plastic and it does look added but also on purpose. His body is Styrofoam but his legs and arms are wood.
