Thoughts on improving clay soils

Most of what I have done and what I have read on the forum seems very sound when working with red clay or any clay soil for that matter. Most will till in amendments and lots of them in volume to make the clay better intitally and then layer them on thereafter. Some with veggie gardens will till every year while others will not and just layer. The one thing about clay is once it is made more friable and drains better it is one of the best soils out there as it has lots of trace minerals and hold water very well in dry weather and doesn't drain out like sandy soil. Am I the only one out there that is glad he has clay soil?
