Name That Plant!

This is a really nice wild flower I have observed growing in the rocks along the railroad tracks. Very hot, dry full sun area. They seem to spread very easy. The picture I have is really large and I had a hard time resizing it to meet the ridiculous requirement of 61Kbs. Let me know if you need better pics and I can send you a link to these pictures in my photo bucket account. I can not figure out what the name of this plant is. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the help esh_ga and floral_uk. I went back to see if I could get some better photos (originals a little overexposed) and all the plants were finished blooming already; I would guess they only bloomed for about a week at most, I guess I will have to wait till next year to get more pix.

George, I took a closer look at both your pic and my Ozark Wildflowers book and a plant here and I think what we have is White Crownbeard, Verbesina virginica. If those stems are winged as I think shows in your pic, then that's it. Each flower has 3-5 petal-like rays surrounding the disk flowers. Is a composite, Aster family, blooms Aug-Oct. On pg 74. In the winter watch for "frost ribbons" coming from the base of the hollow stem.

Looks like Linaria vulgaris aka Common Toadflax, Butter and Eggs. Eurasian native introduced to N America.
