simplicity riding mower spitting oil from the air filter. help!
Comments (5)Sorry I can get the exact model # when I get home tonight. This is a recent problem, it ran well all last year, it ONLY spits up oil when the blades are engaged, If you disengage the blades it stops spitting oil. It is definately not over filled, now it's super low since it had spit up so much and no it has not been tipped over. It just started happening one day when I went to cut the grass. It's a Simplicity Regent but i'll get the exact model # later....See MoreOil dripping from Air Filter Case
Comments (1)Check the oil level. Remove the air filter, and start the engine. If it runs OK, let it smoke until it stops smoking; up to 5-10 minutes. Install a new air filter, if necessary. If it doesn't run OK, then you'll have to take it to the shop....See MoreOil in air Filter on Honda GCV160 Engine
Comments (7)just read this thread as bought a GCV135 Allen at auction and taking it back to car did exactly as thread starter and held it to me carb down. DOH! It didnt leak any oil on the way to car but when I got home it had dribbled through filter. onto deck. Not seeN this mower working so pig in a poke but looked ok. Have cleaned filter with petrol but will replace. Took off carb bowl and just dribble of fuel and no oil and no sludge. (p/tank was empty but wet.) Trying to figure out how oil came out through carb but didn't enter it (or maybe did?). Suppose it would have only gone into main jet if at all and main jet raised?? Hoping not to have to strip carb but will find out shortly. Read inline filter good idea for fuel? Any views? Is there space? Comments (3)Thanks for the responses. I did set the float level according to the manual and took apart and cleaned out the muffler underneath the deck. I also cleaned and re-oiled the foam air filter. I may not have used enough oil on the filter, but it's not clear that this would cause it run rich? I also cleaned and regapped the spark plug. I didn't check to see that the new float needle and seat were completely shutting off the gas flow if left to sit for a long time. It's not impossible that air was still seeping into the float chamber through the gasket, but I have my doubts since leveling out the ears on the float bowl seemed to produce a good mating of the surfaces.
