Honda powered lawn mower won't start
Comments (10)I just want to point out a few things I feel are worth noting. First to the OP. Please learn proper lawn equipment maintenance. Leaving today's gas in a mower over the off season is silly, even if your using a stabilizer. The ethanol in most fuel will pretty much turn to water (in lay terms) and render your practically new mower useless. Just Google ethanol gas in lawn equipment and read up. Then Google "lawn equipment maintenance" and do the same. Its for your/your wallets own good. Second to saxman, Honda mowers dont suffer from sticky valves that often. Especially after this short of a time. I fixed a guy who acquired his father in laws HRX that sat for 1.5y with fuel in it and even though his carb had pretty much straight water in it and was rusted on the inside (blew my mind) the valve was not compromised in any way.Personally I have never even ran across this issue. Not that it doesnt happen but I just feel its pretty uncommon....See Morelawn mower won't start
Comments (3)Okay, the auto mechanic probably turned the mower up on it's side to work on it but had the wrong side down - the carb side. Gas and oil have contaminated the air filter which must be replaced. Also check oil to see if the level is too high or if it smells strongly of gas - sometimes in this case gas gets in the oil. Change oil if needed. If the oil level is not over the max line, it probably is not too diluted and can be used. Any gas in it will cook off anyway. Check the oil again after using the mower the first time to be sure....See MoreMTD riding mower won't start
Comments (9)If the battery is more than 3 years old--buy a new one! Then, clean up all of the connections, such as ends of battery cables, and especially the ground wire where it bolts to ground, i.e.tractor frame, or body of tractor. Use new bolts, nuts, and lock washers to connect the new battery! This will make sure you have a good electrical connection in the starting circuit! there is also, usually, a fuse in the line somewhere. It will be one of those new style flat fuses, and easy to find. See if it has blown. You'll be able to tell easily. The little curved piece of metal in it should look to be in one piece. If it has blown, there will be a gap in it, and a burnt look. Also, the bolted connections to the starter solenoid are known to get corroded and cut off current to the starter solenoid! And, any battery cables with a green powder coming out of the covering are ripe for replacement. The seat switch wires should be connected, to avoid hurting anybody who might manage to tamper with the mower if you aren't on it! Especially little kids!...See MoreCraftsman Mower deck (clutch) Won't engage
Comments (68)Hi All, Thanks for all the tips; you actually helped me solve my issue (the clutch did not engage). Two years ago, I decided to buy a “Portable Car Battery Charger” instead of keep buying new battery every winter, which apparently was the root-cause. I used the “Portable Car Battery Charger” to jump-start the tractor then disconnected it and start plowing but this year the clutch did not engage. Apparently, the clutch need some power from the battery and since my battery is dead it simple didn’t engage. So, as a "temporary solution" I ducted tape the “Portable Car Battery Charger” to the tractor hood and I keep it connected after the initial “jump-start” and the clutch (and me) are happy. Next week, I will get a new battery for the tractor and a “Battery Buddy” to keep the battery alive during the summers. Hopefully, this post will save others some time & $$...See Moretomplum
