Gazing balls

Sorry if this idea has been posted before!

I was a thrift, and there was a large, gold ornament sitting there, with the hanger part away from me, and it hit me~ Gazing ball !

So now I'm on the hunt for colored (prefer blue!), plastic ornaments- all sizes to make into totems.

They usually have a visible seam going around it, but I don't care.

Photos, yes , I know- I have a room full of glass, just ready and waiting for that snowy day that we're snowed in and nothing to do!

There will be photos. (I hope!)

Maybe you can glue flat marbles over the seam!!!!

Hi Mjowest,
you may want to check in the Christmas decs at Walmart. They have some pale blue and clear balls... some glass, some plastic. They range in price from a couple of dollars up to around $6.00 for the large ones. I bought quite a few since I'm going to use some of the smaller ones as "bubbles" in the birdbath next Spring.

I haven't seen these but think you could easily find something to work if you know the diameter of your ball to use. I think they would be terrific in a metal hanging basket such as used for those with cocoa liners, or even an old kerosene lamp holder may work if you have the right size and use some form of fixative to hold it in place. My husband made a stand for mine with welding horse shoes together.

I just finished my all heads up penny covered bowling ball. I didn't like the black showing through so I grouted it and love it. I sealed it good and then put several coats of clear spray paint. I filled the holes up about half way with tissue and then finished with caulk. The next one I am going to leave the thumb hole open to put it on a pole. You can get old bowling balls at the good will, thrift stores for usually under $3.00. It is a very addictive hobby. I have done them with the glass marble disc's, they turn out gorgeous.

Mjowest, here's a lazy person's version of a mini gazing ball. I found this fairly large plastic Christmas decoration at a yard sale for maybe 10 cents. Stuck it in this brass urn that I had sitting around. Lazy, but I like it lol. I can't wait to see what you create on that snowy day! Post pics then please. ~tenderlee

I found pedestal looking candle holders and made mini gazing balls using Christmas ornaments to use in flower boxes, indoor plantings and pots.

I've seen those extra large ball/bulb ornaments in the Christmas side of Walmart. Watch the day after Christmas, they'll be half price.
