Ideal height for St Augustine floratam in FL

New home owner here so no experience with lawn care.

What is the ideal height to cut st. augustine floratam? I prefer having it longer about 5" but my lawn guy insist I cut at 4" but it leaves my grass yellow at the tip and takes a few days for it to go green again. I also read that the longer it is the better protection from the sun but you'll get tatch buildup. July right now and it rains so fungus + tatch build up is on the rise. My lawn guy suggested that 4" will help prevent those problems. Is it true or he just does not want to adjust his mower height when he mows my lawn. thanks in advance.
