we have a "dead" buck in the garage. it doesn't light up anymore. i keep thinking about what i could do with it and that looks like a great idea. now, if i sneak that buck out of dh's garage, i'll be jamming. i'm surprised he hasn't already tossed into the garbage thinking i'm gonna try to t2t it somehow. he hates my t2t obsession....... LOL

This deer was bought before they sold them with lighting. Hubs did the lights. We had to wire the lights to his frame. We did this deer while we were engaged 17 years ago. I wanted him to know what he was getting into. We also, during a romantic mood, sat by the fireplace and built a precut wooden miniature village. He was carpenter and I was the head painter. AND HE STILL MARRIED ME!!!!!

He would also make a cool topiary for some miniature ivies or small leaved plants. I did not know how to do that back when I made him.

What a great idea! I know there was another post on this site where someone took a couple of those Xmas deer, painted them brown and made topiaries out of them. Yours is so much prettier though! Love what you did with him. Awesome job!

Mine are very plain, but they suit our yard.

The little deer belonged to my brother. I got them when he died eight years ago, and was very upset when the lights went out. I've rewired them a couple of times, finally gave up, stripped the lights and clips and painted them to match larger iron ones I have. Now they look like a family of reindeer! Only one of the large ones in this picture, another one if off to the side, but you'll get the idea.

They stand next to a lighted, wrought-iron arbor, and we can see them from several rooms in the house.

i'm pretty sure i have actually seen these with ivy or something growing up and all over the body so that it looks like a topiary. or maybe there was some green material stuffed inside the body and legs to make it look like a topiary... either way, it was very cool, and i think it could be achieved with the metal deer as a base. a lot of people toss these in the thrift store pile after christmas, too. great ideas, though! thanks for the pics.

now see.....those old bones up in the hills could have come in very handy, for Christmas decorations..
I may have to scout it out again, come hunting season....lol

Ok now I have another item to add to my list.. Again we have taken a what can I do with it and repurposed these deer to something useful and very pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for the post Kirk, those are on my "To Do" List!!! I love all the ways of re-purposing these deer, and just love all of them shown here! I work at a thrift store at a Recycling center: and I expect the motherlode of deer to come in shortly!lol! We are already getting ALL the Christmas leftovers!!!lol! So it's gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel!!!hahahahaaa

hmmm - used2be - you can go to Michaels or somewhere and get batting material - stretch it all around the deer and the lights will glimmer even more next year. I did that to ours and restrung with LED lights which consumes less power and do not get hot.

Mrs. No made me take our's down and put them in the "TV Room" (we are not allowed to have shed's in our development so I named it the "TV room") over the weekend. I am almost certain that I will not be re-elected as Association President next year - PLEASE. I will not run and will not serve if elected and I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman (or deer).

Meanwhile, susiewantscarnations, those are really cool. Had to look again, as I thought you had camels at first - contrary to your subject line.

Last thing here - Mrs. No surprised me last night. She was shopping somewhere and got two itty-bitty little turtles that are supposed to hang on the side of a planter. Strange how someone who thought 'all these turtles' are retarded has gotten into it more and more. If I can take them when she is not around, I will get pictures of the turtle towels she is using in her bathroom (does not like my steam shower). Of course their little claws are too small for amost any planters I could find - might take a pic tonight if I can't talk her into Thai food out!
