bathroom plunger

This neat idea came from another message board but I kinda improved on it.

I call it a TP (toilet paper) Tower.

Use a bathroom plunger. If it is an old one or a new one, doesn't matter, with a wooden handle. Fill your kitchen sink with hot water and add dish soap. Stand the plunger up in the sink, using an old rag, scrub it very good including inside the black part at the bottom. Let it dry completely. The wooden handle was originally painted a yellow color so I went looking for some yellow paint at walmart. I found a small-like bottle in the craft department that cost only 1.30. I poured some in a small butter container and using a small brush I painted the wood part. I set it on an old newspaper and worked very carefully so I would not get paint any place else. Since it dried fast I put on another coat and let it dry. I then took it downstairs and sprayed on a coat of clear. I did that three times to make sure it was well covered. After that was very dry I turned it upside down and turned in the black smaller inside part of the plunger. I brought it back upstairs, set it in the bathroom and put 5 rolls of toilet paper on the yellow handle.

The next time hubby went to bathroom he was laughing so much he could hardly finish his business.

something else I have seen along this line is using the wooden part from a plunger and a terra cotta clay pot...the plunger wood part works better, since you will put the end with the threading into the hole in the pot...I've seen it done 2 ways, with the pot turned upside down, and with the pot upright with the opening part up..if you use a big enough pot then tp rolls can sit inside the pot and all the way up the plunger handle...of course paint as desired, or decopage the pot etc.

to secure the wooden plunger handle after feeding it through the hole in the pot, you could find a large threaded nut (there is something else I've seen that works, cant think of what it was but it was plastic and had threads so that you would feed it up onto the plunger to make it tight to the pot.

I think if you are creative enough you might just be able to reuse the rubber part of the plunger that the wooden handle screws into someway on the outside (or if you flip the pot over, and its' big enough you could put the rubber part inside the pot, so it wont show...

I replaced the lights in the kids' bath and the powder room ten years ago with inexpensive HD fixtures, and they've held up fine, no rust at all inside or out - I just took down and remounted the one in the kids' bath so I could paint - ten years of steamy showers by four children - no corrosion, no signs of overheating or sparking. They look good, fit my style, and I would keep them even if I got a windfall. The thing is, I am glad that there is high end design and there are people who have a lot of money to spend - I can look at a beautiful room and think, is this possible DIY? What less expensive materials will give the same effect? And then there are low price imitations of the high end goods and some of them are quite pleasing. The sixties were more egalitarian as far as housing construction (our house is 1965 and would have been upscale in its time) but oh, what ticky-tacky, very utilitarian, no- style light fixtures. You would have seen the same lights in a house a third the size. It's a light - what more could you ask? Well, now the answer is safety, style, American-made, and low-priced. I hope they're out there!

We used to make those...but not with a plunger we used those antique metal things that looked like a plunger but I think they were to wash clothes with...A whole lot easier to touch than thinking about where that rubber plunger might have been...

Mine sits on the floor beside the toilet - seldom gets used, and when it does for the toilet, rarely, it gets cleaned carefully either with the hose at the barn in summer, or in the tub by the washer in winter .. with the tub then being carefully cleaned. After using it in the sink, I rinse it and sit it back on the floor. Hi pawsitive, While I doubt that you have a snake/eel, if you ask around among friends, you may find someone who has and you could borrow it. It might well clear the washrag from its blockage in your waste line. If some of you have used my Christmas gift - send to ask the local folks whose names you've stored there. If you don't find one, it might be worthwhile to invest in one. A lot cheaper than a plumber, if it works. ole joyfoul ... frugal, as usual

Recommend a toilet for small bathroom?

While the bathroom isn't small, in and of itself, the sewer pipe is really close to the wall, so many toilets for us, would not fit in the back, or the top wouldn't sit well because the water closet was too close to the wall. We ended up with a Kohler Cimmaron with the sensor flush (won't recommend), the night light toilet seat (neat looking but batteries don't last) by but do like the no slam function of the seat. This is in a year old remodeled bathroom used by a now 18 year old young man and his brother, 215 pound wrestler when home from college. Not one clog. We put the Bancroft in our bathroom (old vintage looking with claw foot tub) and have never had a clog. Really like the way this one cleans and flushed. It seems a bit taller than the cimmaron comfort height. I didn't like it at all in the photos, but the plumbing house recommended it. I am so glad, because we love it. I think it is elongated and may come in round. I know the cimmaron is round bowl.
