Time to dissipation for broadleaf herbicides in lawns?

Hi there-

We're going on family vacation for 2 1/2 weeks and this might be a good time to apply some broadleaf herbicide to help control the more invasive weeds in our lawn (chickweed in particular). The idea is we could put it down while the children are not using the lawn. But I need to know how long the applied herbicide will persist where the children can get access to it.

Is there a reference somewhere online that shows how long herbicide persists on the lawn - that is, how long it remains available for kids to get access to?

I'd be interested in both post- and pre-emergents.

We're in Anchorage, AK with a mostly fescue lawn, partial shade, and invasive chickweed that we've been fighting for almost 10 years now. It causes bare spots and completely smothers our grass seedlings when we try to overseed on bare soil, no matter how hard we work and water and try to reestablish the grass.

Thanks for any advice.
