Deere JX75 engine replacment

Hello all. I have a 1999 model JX75 with the FC150V engine on it. I hit a rock recently, and bent the blade drive shaft. Since it has a lot of hours on it, I was thinking of just replacing the whole motor. Does anyone know if the open market (non-JD part) Kawasaki FC150V engine will fit? I have a diagram and the mounting holes are the same, but the blade shaft may be a bit smaller on the FC150V-S11 (open market pressurized lube model). The spec on the open market model is a 7/8" shaft. The actual JD spec'd motor is closer to 15/16" by my measurements. What about the FJ180V engine? Any thoughts? Thank you in advance. This maybe too late for you, but it may help others who do not want to pay $700.00 for a new engine from John Deere. I just installed an FJ180V-CS11-R on a 14SB frame, which I believe to be the same frame as the early JX75 that you have. In any event, the original engine on the 14SB was an FC150V-FS00. The new new engine fit with out any modifications, and the blade guide, pulley and BBC fit perfectly. The only thing I had to do was tap the mounting holes and shorten one mounting bolt to 1-inch. One note - the throttle control works backwards, in that the choke is at the off setting (throttle back) and off is at the choke setting (throttle forward). If anyone has the trick to change this let me know. Check out the Small Engine Warehouse online or E-bay for the engine (about $200.00 + shipping).

Yep, getting it off was the easy part...I used a pair of vise-grips to rotate the end of the springs against the retaining bracket while sliding the rod back in and finally got it on...thanks for the suggestion.

I think you are saying that you see the trans pulley quit turning when you release the bail- but you still can't pull back the unit? For each wheel there is a drive clutch that you can carefully disassemble, lay everything out as it goes back together and clean/ lube them. Then your wheels should release.

I have the same mower and I'm having a similar problem. Mine just won't start. I took apart the carb and cleaned it real good. Starting fluid will make it want to run but it just wont. How can I find a rebuild kit? The bowl gasket was shot the last time but I got it back together and I know if I take it apart again I will need a new one, but figured why not buy a rebuild kit anyway. Thank you for your help. Rob

If you are interested in the LB 10550, do not let the re-jetting scare you. You can simply purchase a different pilot jet for about $7. You then just unscrew the old one and then screw in the new one. You do not need to remove any parts. It takes about 20 seconds. Also, I bought a new LB with the Dura Force a few months ago and it runs fine with no alterations. They are great machines. I have no experience with the other machines you mentioned, but have used LB's for 40 years.
