Snapper drive disk

I've had this drive disk for ~1 year on this walk behind Snapper. It has done 52+ lawns for ~2 hours/lawn. The drive disk has started to lose chunks and I need to replace it. How long have you other Snapper owners gone before you needed to change the disk?

Just curious, I thought it would last longer. Thanks.

I still have the original disc on my Snapper rear engine rider, built in 1982-3!
I just sold a Snapper self-propelled walk-behind for $50, and it didn't seem to have a bad disc, so you may have an adjustment problem with yours.

By "disc" are you referring to the rubber tire? I've had various lifetimes on these, from many years to one season. I think that adjustments must have some bearing on the tire's lifespan, as rustyj14 said.

The platter might be titanium if it is pretty new, but I'd be surprised. I wouldn't rule out aluminium, those platters aren't just cut out of a sheet of the stuff you'd find at HD! Flexibility doesn't even rule out glass, there are glass/ceramic mixes that have some flex. The platter absolutely won't be steel or tin. Aluminium is by far the most common material for thin film coatings. If the coating is shiny and not orange (rust-coloured) then it is the thin film type, a cobalt alloy with an overcoat. It should be very resistant to corrosion. It is actually magnetic (hard drive, duh!) but there is so little of it and it is arranged in such a way that you'll get almost no response to a magnet.

Boo boo boo. Troy Bilt is now an MTD product. Go tho their web site "mtdproducts.com" or the link below take you directly to the page you need. They have a long list of Horse models, left side has Horse model, right has engine model if you can't determine the unit number. Click on appropriate model, opens a new window, click on list showing group sections, the one starting with speed control or something like that will show the reverse disc. Not sure but the model is 30085S. I am using a Series 4,4,6 repair manual. I have a new pulley but without modification it would not run concentric to center too much slop on bushing and nut would tighten to bushing and not contact pulley. I made a inquiry as to fit of a pulley with built in hub. I bought this as a running project. I was a little off on the terminology here - I was referring to the driven disk (the rubber one that is orientated horizontally and meets with the metal drive disk below). I have kept it properly adjusted and it has not had any drive slippage since I purchased the mower. The rubber driven disk is badly chunked and I need a new one.

I'm going to my dealer for a new one and will ask him as well -- but do these driven disks typically last longer than 1 year with the use I give it (52+ lawns for ~2 hours/lawn)

I have had a Snapper RER and a SP mower like yours (both 5-15 years old) and have never had to replace the drive disk. I think yours wore out way too quickly. It should be under warranty if it is only one year old.

I took the chunked driven disk back to my dealer and he replaced it for free (even though it was a month out of warranty. Good guy and he stands behind his machines. Snapper is back in action. Thanks for the input on this.
