Troubleshooting a Honda HRB 215 Mower

I have a Honda HRB 215 mower that doesn't want to run. It does have the blade brake on the mover and I can squeeze the handle and pull to start, but there is a huge drag on the engine and I cannot start it. The plug was bad and I replaced it. I checked to see if the brake is releasing and it does appearthat it is releasing. The only other thing that I could think of was that the piston/ring/cylinder have failed, but the oil looks good. I've also looked into the cylinder as best I can seems to be OK. Besides, I've never had a Honda engine fail me yet. This brings me back to some other reason for the drag. The two main areas are that I missed something in the blade brake mechanism or that possibly the self-propelled drive mechanism is dragging. I would appreciate any thoughts that you may have. Are there any service bulletins on line for this type of repair?

Have you adjusted all cables as per the owners manual?
How does it spin with the spark plug removed?
How thick is the oil?

Remove most of the free play from the engine control bail by adjusting the cable housing, like a bicycle caliper brake adjustment. The brake/ignition switch is not moving enough to allow the engine to start.

I'm not sure if you are saying that you have other problems than the self propel? When someone tells me that the transmission does not work, I assume they mean the self propel doesn't work. Getting at the transmission is a bit of a testy job. If your model's drive cable is adjustable, it is adjusted at the top of the cable near the control. It is also possible that the belt has finally worn to the point that the drive is not able to pull the mower. Or worse. If you are talking about the rear cover, and you see something like a little bracket near the transmission area- that is a retainer for the spring that hooks to the trans bracket. If that is what you mean by grommet.

I had not seen varnished Honda carbs until recently. They seem to have escaped this dilemma. Here is what you're looking for. Most likely, you'll have to remove the carb. Make careful note of the linkage and how it comes off. Remove the bowl nut and in the center of the carb you'll see an opening just under the bowl nut. You'll need a special, thin screwdriver to remove the first jet. It has a slotted head with a center jet. Above that is the long tube with many small holes. Both pieces have to be thoroughly clean. Use carb cleaner to clean the rest of the carb; any orifices. Do not overtighten the jet when you put it back in. Very light torque; it isn't going anywhere. This should solve your problem. This carb worked like a champ when I was done. Good luck.

If problem exists once engine is warmed up, the carb needs cleaning. Probably sat to long with fuel going old and stale and did some minor varnishing of jets. I say minor, my not even see anything when taken apart since it seems to run OK when started with blade engaged. Also check rpm's, 3200 +/- 100, warm engine for at least 30 seconds, engage at full throttle and bang the control lever, do not engage slowly.

He has the Roto-Stop on his mower. It sounds like the blade clutch is not releasing or the crank is bent.Also check the bearing on the blade plate, it could be seized.
If you take the Roto-Stop apart, compress the spring and insert a small pin such as a hex key through it and the hole in the rod before removing the arm. The arm will be a real sumbee to re install if you don't.

the clutch is slipping I have had it apart is there composit material on eather the driven disk or the pullie kit? 75151-veo-000 or 06751-ve1-305 Or do I need to by 2
