Here is another one. Actually, they have tables as long as 110", but all are 39" across, you would still need to remove some inches. The two shown would allow this due to the type of base. We haven't quite finished this project, so this is the first sharing of it on gardenweb, but we made a banquette and table in the past month. The table top is an IKEA countertop that dh cut to size and routed... I stained it and then waterloxed it. We put it on 2 cast iron base pedestals that I found online. Someday we might switch out the table surface for granite (or whatever) when we actually do the cabinets and counters in our kitchen. The first pic shows the table when I was almost done finishing it (we "sealed" off the music room from the kids/pets). The second picture shows it in place with the nearly finished banquette. While I haven't totally said no to the idea, I am afraid that a granite/silestone table might be too "cold" for a kitchen table. I'll make that final decision whenever we come to it.

Would you consider making one of concrete? It could be done in place. But set your wine glass down verrrrrry gently. Voice of experience.

@Elisabeth DlFeo If you are responding to me regarding paying shipping costs back, it was I think a ploy to make it entirely impractical for me to return it. They also wanted me to repair it and offered me a slight discount. In my circumstances, I didn't want to do it as the entire construction was faulty. However I did have a lot of custom furniture made including a dining room table, wall unit, all of my cabinets. I also had a vintage bedroom suite (wood) completely redone and refinished. In your circumstances, if you loved the table, I might find a really good wood crafter and have them attempt a repair. It is really amazing what can be done with wood by someone who knows what they are doing. So that truly is an option. You could tell them that you will attempt to locate an expert in your area and they will attempt a repair. If it is done to your satisfaction then you will accept $X dollars as compensation. If it can't be repaired then you will expect them to arrange for shipping back to them. You should open up a claim with the credit card company as soon as possible to preserve your rights. I just wanted to mention that preserving the packaging isn't always feasible with large items. The only way the cabinet could get taken out of its packaging was to have it cut off so there was nothing to "save". Not to mention logistically the difficulty of getting a large item picked up or even repackaging a large item into a box.
