Ho! Ho! Ho! Secret Santa Gift: A Rustic Birdhouse

Merry Christmas early, everyone! I just can't keep secrets. Ask my husband! Tee hee. My husband Kirk and I made this birdhouse for my Secret Santa person. After my research, I discovered that my secret person loves rustic things. (I'm not going to reveal too much because I don't want to give it ALL away.)

Kirk made the birdhouse from old, weathered wood he salvaged from a neighbor's burn pile. Then, we went through our treasures in the garage to find the rustic adornments. I had fun placing just the right items. I think it turned out so sweet. We are so tempted to keep it for ourselves ;o), but it is already boxed and ready to be mailed Friday. Kirk is really excited about the Secret Santa Exchange. His excitement has worn off on me. Hmmmm....I wonder who will be receiving this birdhouse? Who likes rustic things? Hmmmmm... Ho, ho, ho! I hope it's okay to post this on the Discussions side of the forum since I am sharing a picture of a garden junk idea.

Oh, I do want to share some photos! I lurk around all the local thrifts and GSs for bits and bobs and then make mosaic birdhouses out of found pieces. It'd be really fun to share them. However, I'm still trying to figure out how to get photos here. I know I need to join a website first (to post some of my pics) which I think will allow the pics to be changed to a smaller "resolution". THEN I can work on importing them here. Do you know which site most people use for their pictures? (I've looked at Photo bucket) I'd like to be able to imbed pics right in messages here rather than link. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

IS IT HERE YET???!!!! is it Christmas eve yet??? Can I open my present yet??!!!Oh, wait, I'm 50 something years old..LOL...I'm an adult...I have a job, and responsibilities, and and an aching knee from standing all day at work, and cookies to bake and a..OMG...fishing pole and a barbeque grill to wrap...why oh why do husbands have to make "just one last trip" to the store for one last gift...where are my huge green trash bags?..and how many will it take to disguise a fishing pole..and the stocking's still not done and the only gift I've wrapped was my Secret Santa Gift (glad it arrived...big smile)...but I did find my missing Hallmark ornaments..the foolish old woman put them in...HA!!!the box of ornaments waiting to be hung on the tree that I hadn't bought yet!!!I don't know where this old woman gets her ideas , but I sure wish she'd write 'em down once in a while! My craft room looks like an explosion at a Christmas shop, and I have not taken even one picture with my new 2GB card that I ordered way before Christmas so I'd have plenty of memory and not have to upload every 15 pictures...and it's Saturday...WOOHOOO..only 3 more days..can I open my present now???..Oh wait, I have to go to work...can't I just send the old woman in my place??!!!??? Oh good, I have the blessing part down, it's the spirit I'm lacking, LOL* I was thinking the same thing Westelle, if I can manage to get lights on it, the grands will both be here today, they can decorate it:) I think that counts, that's one more than I've done, so yes. Grandgirl gets to invite one person to her Christmas play in Kindergarten on Friday, when asked who she told her Mom she wanted me:) This went over well with exDIL... But I have my blessings down Pat, that would include my health, my husband's, my folks, my siblings, my children and all my beautiful grandchildren:) I just wish it wasn't so expensive. My sister doesn't have kids, so she's borrowing my grandchildren to give presents to. Well 6 of the 7, the youngest ones here in CA. 4 of them don't even remember who she is. That's very nice of her to do. That's a spirit of giving and a pass it on thing we do. She has a student nurse in her class that is very poor and she made a secret Santa gift to her of $100. This gal cried. She lives on $600 a month trying to go to nursing school and has 2 kids. I picked the young gal who cuts my hair to give mine to. She cried too. I remember what it's like to be young and broke. I know what it's like to be old and broke, LOL* My Sis and I have been doing this for years. She usually has more money than I do, sometimes I help someone with something else. Pass on the kindness, pass on the money to someone and hoping they will remember and pass it on themselves one day also. I don't say this very well. Not everyone will but these people still have memories of kindness, an unexpected act who knows how this touches them?? Circles in circles. Have you ever had a full basket or cart at the store and let someone from behind you with just a couple of things go in front of you? Expressions can range from astonishment to gratefulness to sometimes nothing at all. But, that's an act of kindness and touches someone:) Especially if they're behind me at the grocery store, I usually have 2 weeks of groceries in my cart, LOL* sorry, wandered off there. Les

I love it! I like rustic things too and I would love to get this. I'm so excited too!! I can't wait to send my gift, if I ever finish with it that is. Lol.

That is VERY cool! If it's not mine, I'm going to copy the look of the hinges used. I like it a lot! My Secret Santa gift to someone is going to end up being more of a hodge-podge of all kinds of stuff - so much fun buying it!

Cute and unique...that's not a horse shoe...or, is it?...if so, how did you get it to stick to the wood?
I like the idea of adding hinges too.

Thank you for your kindness. We enjoyed making this birdhouse and will have to make some more! We have boxes and boxes of rustic treasures in the garage which Kirk's brother gave us. (Kirk's brother is a bigger collector than Kirk! Runs in the family! Tee hee!) The horseshoe is attached with short, rustic nails. None of the nails went all the way through the wood. Kirk attached the back with screws so the back can be taken off and the house can be cleaned. Thank you again. Carol

I love the birdhouse!!! I can't compete with that, but with all of y'all's guidance I'll get better (hopefully). I love the way the birdhouse is decorated with hinges & latches & all the cool stuff that most folks would trash. Good job y'all!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
