Lurker alert!

Hey, y'all. I'm Vee and have been lurking here about a year now and loving everything I see. I've recently retired and now have time to try some of the crafts I've seen here. Please take a look at my Photobucket album and comment on the totems. Thanks and I'll post more as I go along. This is SO addictive.

Glad to see you came out of lurkdom. Love all your glass totems, espically the amber one. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!!!!!

I'd like to suggest to those interested that you view each and everyone in Full Size ( click on the pic and when it comes up click Full Size )... It's so worth it, angels, cherubs and sea shells...

Vee I just have to ask, some of your glass pieces look very expensive, are you incredibly rich or just plain lucky to acquire such lovely pieces... The one crystal bell I have set my sister-in-law back $75... And, those decanters... WOW.... I don't think I've ever seen one under $45.... And your angels... Say, are those sea shells solid glass, where did you find them???

I read the link, but it sounds like in your present situation, you can't wait until early spring. If I were you, I'd take the chance and dig them up nonetheless. What's to lose since the stand will be destroyed by heavy highway equipment anyway. Just dig as deep as you physically can so you can preserve as much of the roots as possible. Put what you dig into a bucket of water. If they make it, they'll send up ferns. Leave them be. I would let them go to fern next year in your garden too. This will allow them to build strength and get established. After the first year, you can harvest. You may even find that you might have to divide this highway clump. If so, be sure to keep a few eyes per transplant. Sounds like a worthy project to me. I remember harvesting asparagus from roadside ditches in Wisconsin when we would visit family every spring. Hi ladies :) I'm becoming a lurker as I have almost no time to spend in the forum any more like I used to do few months ago. But there's something you seems having missed since you probably are not search engine experts: your pictures are showing in Google's images result pages as this forum is NOT private. So, if you see a huge amount of views of your pics - even those of your families - it's because you displayed the pictures here and because the forum is not marked as a private one otherwise there wouldn't be many visitors and posters. Another thing I'd like to say is that I used pictures from Purplemoon's Holiday Inspiration album for my own works - my Halloween and Christmas sites as well as my Squidoo lenses. I even opened a thread here to ask if I could do so. Except Luvs and Purplemoon, I don't remember having got a lot of answers nor views to the thread but like Purplemoon said, since they're on the album I could make use of them as it was their purpose. Of course, some of your pictures are in my works as I found them wonderful and worth the look by other people on the Internet who are looking for inspiration, ideas that will make their own holidays stand out from the crowd. While I can understand how you feel if you would happen to end up on your private life picture on someone else's work, there's something I would strongly advise you to not do: upload such pictures to Photobucket, Flickr or any other kind of public site and certainly not displaying them in a forum; which links and threads are public. The same goes for blogs: if you don't want to have your pictures displayed all over the Internet, don't upload them to your blogs as they also are public. And if you still want to upload your personal pictures but don't want others to make use of them, protect them by a copyright - which won't certainly ensure that they won't be used by someone who wouldn't mind about it but this will at least reduce the risk of having your pictures displayed where you don't want to have them displayed. Feel free to shoot me an email asking to remove your pictures from my sites if needed, I'll send you the link in private and you'll be able to make decision. Whatever you do, be sure that I did it because I really liked your decorations and always considered them as references! Dom.

Thanks all, very very helpful info. Boxerpups, special thanks for these great photos, would never guess where the seams are in your counters. If things would work out so well for us, I would prefer they use caution with my handpicked slab and add a seam. You make a very good point about my confidence in the fabricator also. I think that must be the true source of my uneasiness. I do feel they are competent because they give all the right answers to questions (that I learned to ask from this forum), and they are well established in this area, but I just didn't click with the salesman and I only overlooked that because our contractor, who is wonderful, overall likes them. The owner also is great. So every time the salesman tells me something, I don't trust him. So I think what I will do is ask about their ability to hide seams and show them your photos if you don't mind--to give them an idea what our expectations are. Then I can put this to rest and move on. Thanks so much again everyone! And please stay tuned for backsplash questions, that is the next step!!

I'm sure glad you came out of lurkdom! What a treat! I really like how you showcase little items inside glass pieces. There are so many pretty glass baubles that are too heavy or would get dirty if left unprotected that would otherwise be so pretty in a totem. Putting them inside another piece is just perfect! I see you have found a couple of pieces I got for my Secret Santa. I knew they would look great on a totem! Thanks for sharing all of your treasures!

Welcome Vee. I'm with the others, you have some georgeous totems. Very good choices on how you used them also. I also love the blue and aqua.

Welcome Vee! That totem bug bit you really hard didn't it ;-) You have been very busy!

Your creations are beautiful! I think each one is special, hard to pick a favorite.

I've been saving glass pieces for a totem, haven't made one yet. Never saw one til I first visited the Garden Junk forum in August of this year. The creativity here blows my mind (well, it's already blown, but you know what I mean lol)

Welcome to the forum Vee! WOW! You have been one busy lurker! If this is what you can accomplish when you're not retired, I can only imagine what you'll be able to do now! Love the totems. Such great colors and different pieces. You must have been collecting glass for a while....I've never seen so many different colors and styles of glass. Great job! Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you decided to come out of lurkdom!

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. No, the totems are not very expensive. Ritaotay, I pick up the pieces at Goodwill or thrift shops and best of all at garage sales. I think the lamp bases were $5 apiece and otherwise, the pieces run anywhere from a quarter to $3. The decanters were about $3 each. This is so much fun but I'm running out of places to store them now. I think I'll try drilling glass next and make wind chimes. Thanks again y'all. Cheers!

What a Treasure Trove! They are all so beautiful and the individual touches of angels, shells, etc. are so artistic!
I have to get going and make me some more! They are addictive but so much fun!!

Those are gorgeous, I'm going to study them again.

I've been buying pieces for over a year now but we are gone from home for months at a time, so I haven't found the time to do it.

You have inspired me to find the time.

Oh my Gosh! They're gorgeous! I want the turquoise one with the dragonfly! I too recently started making these glass totems, and Yes they are addicting. I don't know what I like better: the hunt of the thrift store finds or arranging the pieces together. I certainly don't want to share them with anyone as they are all favorites, but eventually will have to. Nice Job!!!!!
