Lawnboy Duraforce for F engine?

Can I replace an "F" engine with a Duraforce? My "F" engine blew a rod. Will the Duraforce bolt to the "F" deck plate and muffler plate? The Duraforce is on a push Silver Series which I dislike while the "F" is on a self propelled S21ZSR (1989).

Have you tried cleaning up the threads with the correct-size tap? How about oversizing it? One bolt would be a different size, but that shouldn't be a problem. Possibly you could could find a new or good used plate as the ultimate option.

My LawnBoy(10323) is in the shop but a loaner was given to me for use and it is a snapper CP21400R2 and except for the staggered wheels of the LawnBoy-which makes it turn more easly, this Snapper seems to be great. Question: are any 2 cycle lawn mowers available anywhere new? I hope to get my 10323 back and running and this loaner is not for sale. What can I do about getting a backup 2 cycle self propelled? Thanks to an earlier member's help with boreing out my Lawnboy carb-it made all of the difference in the world. The latest link about putting Locltite to hold the jet in place may be my problem now with the LawnBoy in the shop.

A little bit of burnt oil residue could be considered normal in the exhaust transfer tube, however if there is unburnt mix in the transfer tube, you have a carburetor that is leaking when the machine is not in use. You need to remove the carburetor, clean it, and replace the inlet needle and seat (LB part # 92-9697). As far as the governor sticking, I am assuming you mean the white plasic air vane that is part of your carburetor. If this is sticking, the most likely problems are A) the plastic material of your air vane is swollen and in need of replacement, B) the RPM adjustment collar (attatched to the air vane) is binding on the carburetor body, or C) the carburetor body itself is swollen and in need of replacement. If this isn't quite what you were encountering, feel free to post some more specifics on how the mower runs, reacts to a load, etc. Also, when you reattatch the cover for the exhaust transfer port, make sure you use a high temperature silicone sealant to prevent leakage. Did you have the brass jet out of the carb body? These had a habit of working there way out (down) and giving a false adjustment for needle. Also check the bottom of ventura of the carb where the throttle shaft extends into the body of the carb. I have seen some that wore thru to the bowl area with many hours of use. If engine sounds like an old hit and miss running real slow and will not speed up by moving the air vane manually, you may have a bad spark module. Running on retarded slow speed start spark and not advancing to run setting. Does engine start normally. Bottom seal will sometime fall out of crankcase. Crankshaft will be wet after running or after cranking engine over a few times. If engine will speed up by pushing the throttle open manually adjust throttle spring for more tension and let engine run a few minutes and see if it will stop smoking. You may have excess oil in muffler that is burning off and will clear up. Good Luck

Never tried it but looks like a couple of the Duraforce mounts, those close to the carb, might be the same. I doubt it will bolt up and would appreciate knowing but keep in mind, even IF it does, you are mounting a 6.5 hp engine on a 4 - 4.5 hp muffler.

I tell you what, if it works I'm making one too. A Duraforce through an under-deck muffler would be awesome. Believe it or not, I would even REJET the Duraforce to give it the classic Lawn-Boy 'burble'.

If you have an aluminum deck you will need a base plate from an aluminum deck Duraforce. Then you will need to drill one hole, the one on the discharge side of the deck. The other two will line up. It would likely be much cheaper to find a complete F engine though.

OK, I have given up on the idea of replacing my "F" engine with a Duraforce. I wanted to mounted the Duraforce to the aluminum deck plate to use the bottom muffler. The Duraforce has a round exhaust with two holes that are closeer together than the usual rectangular exhaust. In addition the round exhaust extends beyond the rectangular plate. Just no easy way to make this work. Guess I'm looking for a rod assy and bottom crankcase now to fix my "F" engine
