You could tell him that you had been reading about the blue bottles and they are so hard to find that you have been seeing people offering big money for them. So when you saw them as such a steal you had to get them. (well it is partly true- they are highly prized!

I have the extra bottles from my bottle tree set in the flowerbed; for some reason, it keeps the dogs from digging there. I tell people they're bottle tree seedlings.

Where did you find blue bottles for sale, and what do they look like?

I got 5 of them at a garage sale from a gal that was going to do a blue bottle tree (but didn't), then 2 at thrift shops and actually forgot I saw another last week and left it there. . Each one is different, but all full size. I love the idea of putting lights in them along the garden path. Did you see that idea?

I have a lot of bottles but if I had not found a source (my can and recycle guy) I would have ordered from a wine making supply place. Just do a search on wine bottles and you will see there is a huge selection or colors and sizes. Otherwise, only buy blue bottles with something in them to drink that you enjoy: water, vodka, wine and such.

I have oodles of them. Around here they go for $1.00 to about $3.00. I will not pay $3.00 for one. I have all sizes and shapes, from 1 1/2 inch to a really tall wine bottle. I have Vicks, Bromo Seltzer, Noxema, medicine bottles and even a blue cat bottle. I have about 30/35 of them. My bedroom walls are a light cream color and shelves are painted the same color and I have all my blue bottles there where I can enjoy them..they look GORGEOUS!
Some are on my window sills so the light shines through them. I have blue glass star candle holders, blue tear drop and other blue glass mixed in.

And now on top of birdhouse artifacts, I will now be looking for blue bottles too? I think maybe a trip to the Sky Vodka plant would be in order. hah

I love seeing all of the blue bottle fans here! I've loved anything cobalt blue for years. Have a small collection of blue bottles along with lots of other blue things like salt shakers, glass dishes, blue Fiestaware etc., but one of my prized blue items is a cobalt blue glass ball from a lightning rod. When my Mom was selling her farm about 15 years ago, I really wanted to rescue it from the top of a grainery with a rotten roof. Finally talked the Hubby into climbing after it. Told him that it the roof gave way to make sure he tossed the glass ball to me before he fell through! ; ) LOL!
Luckily for all, he's an Ironworker and isn't afraid of climbing on anything.

If you tip one bottle over a metal pole just kind of in amongst your plants, they will look like a flower, or you can claim a shoot came up. then another and another and another, till finally it's hard to find room for plants! That's what I ran into this summer! And I have LOTS more for next year. I need to learn how to weld so I can have a tree. I am a huge blue bottle fan, but some are so special I can't put them outside.

OMG, toooooo funny Daisyme, too funny. Tell DH that the garden gnomes got drunk last night and look, the little buggers left their empty bottles all over the place (might as well plant 'em)!!!!

Funny! LOL My husband just showed me some wine in blue bottles in the Sams Club ad we got, averaging about $13 a bottle. I told him,hmmm,that'd be an expensive bottle tree :)

Where do you live? Maybe someone could drop off a few on the way by! Do you still want them and DH just doesn't want you to BUY them, but would be ok if they were free, or does he not want something breakable around where the kids could get hurt?

Thanks for the idea, Scottymam. I seem to be finding them around here in the foothills of Northern Calif. ok by myself to date, but if I find I need some I may put out a note though. Good idea!

when I want something DH wont get Santa-ME surprises me. Its always funny to see DH react when I get something(hehe)from Santa-ME. Pop em in your yard Christmas eve with a note from the merry old elf.

Blue bottles too are addictive. I drove around a big block today to go back by a home that appeared to have a blue bottle tree for the corner of their porch. Nope, it was a tacky silk or plastic hanging plant that was a bright blue hanging there...glad I was alone, lol. Go Blue

This is not BLUE bottles, but today at the gas station, there was a brown beer bottle (the brand with a bulge on the neck) and a flat whiskey bottle in the garbage can by the gas tanks and they came home with me! LOL
A couple of weeks ago I went to a play, and in the parking lot there were 2 large clear bottles sitting on the sidewalk, and those came home with me too.

two months~ you are soooo right when you say the blue bottles are addictive! My husband has always taken our trash and for the last six months I have taken over the job. We live about 2 miles from the land field and every time the kitchen trash fills up, I take it as an excuse to look in the recycle bin for blue bottles. I went yesterday and the friendly worker was there ( he is the one who ignores me when I look inside the bin)and there were 2 Skyy bottles. I have learned to keep my fishing net in the back of my car, so I used it to scoop them out! I left the dump smiling like a child on Christmas morning! and best of all... they were free! Will try to post a picture of my blue bottle tree as it is beginning to fill up.
