White Fungus Growing on Apricot Trunk

I have a Chinese Montgamet Sweet Pit Apricot tree, and just recently it acquired a white fungus that covers one side of the trunk and a branch whose leaves fell off in the spring. This past summer the tree produced fruit(the squirrels beat us to them), so it is a healthy tree. About ten feet from the tree is a big pine tree...could this have any affect on it acquiring the fungus? I also have two other trees that are a lot fuller and more mature than this one, but they do not have it. I scraped some off and the bark looks unharmed, and I also have pictures but have not figured out how to post them. I can email them if necessary. Any help is greatly appreciated!
