Echo SRM-1501 string trimmer not starting
Comments (5)Well I finally got it started, and honestly, I am not exactly sure what the original issue was. I will explain what I did and maybe someone can tell me why it is running ok now. First, I tried the suggestion by ls3c6 (Thanks!) but it still did not run. I read somewhere that the compression of a 2-cycle needs to be in thr 150 psi range. Since my compression test showed 90, I decided to tear it dowm. I removed the carb, muffler, fuel tank, etc. I then removed the 2 hex bolts that secure the head. Here are a few pics before I cleaned it up. I was able to see the passages where the fuel/air mixture gets from intake to the head. These were not clogged and looked fine. I cleaned up as much carbon as I could. I then used a scroll of gasket material and recut a new head gasket and also a new intake gasket. I kept the same exhaust gaskets and the same gasket between the carb and the plastic air horn (part between the carb and engine.) I put it all back together, choked, pulled. It popped first pull. Took off choke, pulled, and WOW!. It actually sounds so much better, quieter than it was the past 10 years. My only concern is that there was some smoke coming from the exhaust. I am not sure if this is residual burnoff or something else. I will run it longer today and see. Also, out of curiosity I redid my compression test. It still tests 90 psi. So I am stumped. I have no idea what the root cause of the issue was. If the issue was related to airflow thru bad gaskets, then I would have expected a higher psi reading. Any ideas? As always, Thank You for your advise, criticism, etc... Mark...See MoreLeaking Fuel Through Vent Tube??
Comments (8)It definitely sounds like the needle & seat aren't sealing. Sometimes, when an engine sits, you can get deterioration of the fuel line. Put in gas and a "chunk" of crud washes down into the carb and lodges there, preventing the needle from sealing. IF the fuel line is cracked, hard or otherwise suspect, I'd recommend replacing it. IF you remove the needle & seat for cleaning, at least "flush" the line before reinstalling. You don't want to spend the effort and immediately have another piece of crud do the same thing!...See MoreQuestions for Echo string trimmer users
Comments (36)Hi folks, I have used a "cough, cough", Ryobi gas trimmer in the past few weeks. Thing caught fire, almost killed me... Returned to HD for refund. I only bought it because of the split boom, and HD did not have any split boom Echos at the time. Here's my question: I trim grass around my city yard. I have some weeds around the edges (by the fence). I MAY use the edging attachment - although I think the trimmer does a pretty OK job just turned sideways along the lawns... I do want the split boom so I can lightly roto-till my raised garden bed - a smallish 10 by 16 plot. I am considering the SRM 210 SB, OR the PAS 265. I can get a pretty decent price on the 265 right now, and they both give me the "split boom" option... For my usage, is the 210 SB enough? Will it be okay to use with the cultivator - if I just want to loosen the soil on top, till under the weeds, etc.? Because I can get the good deal on the 265, I'm just wondering if the extra $50 is worth it??? Can the 210 do the job with the cultivator, and maybe an edger attachment? I noticed some of you use the cultivator unit with the 2400SB... Thanks... ps: I'm buying tomorrow, so if anyone has some good info tonight, I would be grateful....See MoreHelp my Echo hedge trimmer is stalling.
Comments (8)Fuel filter or high speed circuit in the carb. The fuel filter is doubtful but I would start there 'cause it's easy and worth eliminating as a cause. Pull it out of the tank and spray with carb cleaner. If that doesn't work and you have mixture adjustments on the carb I would give them 1 turn in, 2 turns out and 1 turn back in to arrive at your starting point. That may knock some gum or trash loose and get you on your way. If it's still not working then remove the carb, dissasemble enough to get to the internals and blast with cleaner, you may want to run some tag wire through small passageways. (Tag wire is what you get from the middle of a bread bag twist tie)...See Moreotterhead
