One particular treatment that was done in the 18th and 19th c. when it came to paint, was to paint the entire room in the same color, trim and all. The modern interpretation of this would be to do a higher sheen level on the millwork. This could address the issue of the different sizes of doors and such and minimize the horizontal banding effect of a wainscot. * * * * Mount Pleasant, a Georgian house that has slowly been taken back from colonial revival notions of what it looked like to what it Really looked like --based upon physical analysis-- had very Interesting paint treatment: The entire room, including all the heavy Georgian detail, was painted in one color (a rather drab gold if I remember) The cupboards had a bright paint treatment on the interiors, and there was a brownish black band of paint that ran around the lower 6-9" of the perimeter, intersecting EVERYTHING: door jambs, doors, fireplace, etc...a cut line straight across. (Apparently to hide the splash marks from washing the floors and muddy clothing and such)

Last week-end during our block party, I visited a woman's house just down the street from mine, and she had a small mango tree (about seven feet high, at most) that was loaded with mangoes. I asked her what kind of mango it was and where she got it, but she just told me that she didn't know what kind it was, and that she grew the tree from a seed. She also gave me a ripe mango, as I told her that I wanted to grow one also. Today I ate the mango (it was very sweet and good, but not all that large), and I broke open the husk to start the seed. The seed already had a small root, and I wrapped the seed in a damp paper towel, but it in a plastic bag, wrapped that in a black napkin and put it in the warmest place in my house. I don't know whether I need to check it every day - one video said that he likes to give his new air every day, and so I might do that. I plan to plant it into a pot later this week. I had a Manila mango tree in Venice that got extremely tall, but I never got more than a dozen fruit from it, and so I'm hoping that I will get a tree from this seed that will replicate what I found down the street. The woman also had a chili plant that is about six feet high, and she gave me one of the chilies so that I can plant seeds from that, but I will wait until January or February to germinate those seeds. Anything else I should know about getting a mango seed started?
