my father and i are having a disagreement. we bought a 3-in-1 dwarf *ASIAN* pear a couple years ago and it fruited a bit this year. this year, we noticed the central leader (from the rootstock) grew 2-3 times thicker than the asian pear branches, and that the center trunk actually grew *EUROPEAN* pears.

one of us says that this european pear central leader needs to be fully removed as it is growing faster and larger than the asian grafts, and that the european leader will ultimately take most all the resources from the asian pears. the other one of us thinks it is great that it is now a 4-in-1 pear (3 asian and 1 european) and that we can tame the central leader and manage all 4 of the varieties together almost equally in the future. please provide your viewpoint on this. as the tree was purchased for the asian pears, we don't want to short change the asian pears, and at least would want 60-75 percent of the production to be asian pears.

if you feel that the european leader should be cut back or removed, please let us know where you think it should be removed, at the base (cut spot 1) or higher up on tree (cut spot 2)

thanks so much!!!
