how to change the oil on the lawn mower
Comments (3)Assuming it's a new mower with the oil filler tube extension: have on hand 20 oz of SAE 30 HD engine oil (find 20 oz bottles of Briggs & Stratton oil at Wal Mart); Run mower until it's warmed up; place a catch pan on the ground beside the mower on the oil fill side; take off the oil fill cap and dip stick and place in a clean location (wrap up with paper towel); tilt up other side of mower from the oil fill and dump the old oil into the pan; after draining for a few minutes, set the mower back on it's wheels and put the new oil in; replace oil fill cap. before changing oil check oil type and amount in the manual, which probably also shows how to change it. Always raise the same side of the mower as you would to change oil for any other work under the deck. Raising the other side can flood the carburetor with oil. Keep an old milk jug for the oil and take it to an oil collection point when full....See MoreBriggs Intek 25 hp smoking from exhaust
Comments (22)Well, you can use the SEARCH feature of this forum to research the issue. You will find that at the bottom of the opening page. Yes, you might have a blown head gasket, but that is not why your crankcase oil is full of gasoline. The gas in the oil is because your tractor has a gravity fed fuel tank and no manual fuel cut off valve in the fuel hose (research that too). The oil blowing out the exhaust might be caused by the gasoline in the oil boiling off and flowing out through the crankcase breather and right into the cylinder to be blown out partially burned. The stream of gasoline vapors trying to exit the crankcase as the gas boils carries a large volume of lube oil out with it. First thing you gotta do is install an inline fuel shut off valve and turn off the fuel at all times except when you are actually using the tractor. Second thing you gotta do is drain the contaminated oil out and replace it with fresh oil. After doing those things (in that order) you can run the engine to see if it is still blowing oil out the exhaust. You may have to run it about 15 minutes or so to burn out/blow out all the oil from the previous episode. If the oil blowing clears up/stops, you have dodged a bullet. If the oil blowing continues, you may have a blown head gasket. Those so called "pay for answers" sites are about as worthless/useless as those "psychic reader" sites....See MoreKohler Command 14 HP - oil loss
Comments (17)If you look at my above post, follow the instructions- you will then know if the float valve let fuel into the engine. The float would be attached to the float valve in the carb. You would need to drop the float bowl to access the float. These are plastic floats and typically don't fail. The valve is usually serviced in the kit and you pick the one out of the kit that looks like yours as they don't interchange. BTW, if your oil is diluted w/ fuel- that also mean sthat your cylinder is likely flooded as well. Remove the spark plug and crank with the ignition grounded so a spark from the plug wire won't start the fuel on fire. It is a real good idea to also install an inline shut off valve on these, shutting off the fuel when not in use as these carbs like to fail and flood when sitting. If you had to de-flood the engine- once you change the oil filter and add fresh oil, you may still have oil/ fuel in the exhaust so it will smoke more than normal for the first few minutes....See MoreJohn Deere 425 Kawasaki engine
Comments (3)Sure sounds like a fuel supply issue to me, but kinda baffled by your "throttle back" description for remedy. I would pull the fuel line downstream of pump and filter, but upstream of card and observe flow. If that seems normal, I would pull fuel bowl on bottom of carb and check float is not sticking. While there check for dirt particles. When it starts to die if possible, shoot some carb cleaner directly in carb. If accelerates, then definitely fuel supply issue, and carb clean/kit would be my next move. Hope it helps...See Moreroadbike
