Snapper driven disk ?

I bought a used series 6 RER and it worked fine on the lot where I bought it. When I got it home and went to drive it up the hill at my house it stopped moving forward. I got a new mower belt and a new driven disk with it when I bought it and decided to put the new disk on, but putting them side by side I could tell that there was not a difference in size(both appeared new). I moved the drive disk down the crankshaft to 4 7/8 and it still is not working. My question is when in nuetral should the driven disk (rubber wheel part) be able to be moved around about a 1/4 to 3/8 inch.

Well 4-7/8" from the face of the metal drive disc to the top of the mower frame, not the engine, is way too much. 3-7/8" - 4" is Spec. Might check the spring that hold tension on drive wheel and the yoke that runs across the bottom and operates the clutch, shifter ass'y.

Well thought of another thing. IF that has a "Soft Start" clutch, the rubber tired drive wheel MUST have a liner inside it. Way to tell, old style conventional clutch bolted directly to the drive hub. Soft Start is clamped between a round steel plate, a fiber disc and the drive hub, rides free, is not bolted directly.

Have you looked at a Snapper rear engine rider? It is a nice size for a small plot. As you have discovered, there are not a lot of smaller gear drive riders on the market. Most people prefer the convenience and smooth operation of the hydro, especially for mowing.

The grass is dry. I always mow in late morning after the morning dew has evaporated. I spoke to the shop concerning the installation of the last drive disk and they stated that the clearances were met. My guess is that the drive disk which seems to be made from plastic and not rubber may be part of the problem. When the mower had the symptoms last, I stood the mower on end and the rotor disk was very hot and the drive disk was very pliable. Maybe the contact material on the drive disk is getting too hot to have enough friction on the spinning rotor.

I was a little off on the terminology here - I was referring to the driven disk (the rubber one that is orientated horizontally and meets with the metal drive disk below). I have kept it properly adjusted and it has not had any drive slippage since I purchased the mower. The rubber driven disk is badly chunked and I need a new one. I'm going to my dealer for a new one and will ask him as well -- but do these driven disks typically last longer than 1 year with the use I give it (52+ lawns for ~2 hours/lawn)

I have the same exact problem with a 21" Snapper. I was about to go to a dealer and pick up a new driven disc and belts, but maybe that won't help, if you tried it and it didn't work. Did you ever fix the problem? I can't believe that it would be something simple, like worn tires or whatever.

I meant 3 7/8 and, to the second response I think you might of answered my question. I seen the disks with the liner and was wondering if that might be the problem. Will the liner piece take up a 1/4 inch of slack. Another words is the liner about 1/8 inch thick?

Never measured one but I would say yes, well actually it is only going to take up 1/8" in one direction, 1/4" if you slide it back and forth, but if it has the Soft Start Clutch as I described it, that is likely your problem.
