Honda HRT216 Gear Change cable replacement

Thought I would repost this since my original title seemed to be lacking. I am curious if anyone could give me an idea of how hard it would be to replace the gear shift cable on a HRT216, I pulled the belt cover off and it doesn't look like a difficult task. But I thought I would ask anyway. I got this as a used mower and the gear shift lever is broken. If you could give me idea of the steps or a diagram it would be great. Once I replace it I also would like to know how I should adjust the cable. Also would this be a likely cause of why the mower won't roll backwards? Thanks in advance.

I've got a HRT216 that won't roll backwards also. Any clue what might cause this

I have the same problem but am ignoring it for the time being.

Under Catalogs choose 'American Honda' then somewhere under there should be a selection for your model based on serial number.

I replaced one on an HRR216 (maybe similar to yours) recently and it took about an hour. Not easy at all. This model had the 3 speed shifter on the handlebar. It was my first time and I learned alot about it. You need to remove stuff on the bottom and be a contortionist.

Is the air filter installed? IF it's "oiled up", replace it!!! Remove the spark plug. With the throttle on HIGH, but NOT choked, give the starter rope a dozen good pulls to try to blow out any excess oil/gas. Re-install the plug and give it a try.

The outer sleave of the throttle has cracked right where the cable connects to the engine via the cable clamp. As a result the throttle and sleave move back and forth when the lever on the handle is activated instead of just the inner cable moving back and forth. Short of replacing the whole throttle cable, anyone have any slick ideas on a repair for this situation?
