Snow mold / Spring greenup progress

Since my other spring green up thread was getting hugely cluttered, I'm starting a new one to show the progress a little more clearly. So far this year I've dumped 3 lbs per 1000 sq ft of nitrogen. The applications were as follows:

#1 - 4/11/08, Scott's Turf Builder (1 lb)

#2 - 4/23/08, Scott's Starter Fertilizer (1 lb)

#3 - 5/04/08, Scott's Liquid Turf Builder (1 lb)

04/14/08 ---

04/17/08 ---

04/23/08 ---

05/01/08 ---

05/05/08 ---

I've also topdressed with two applications of 200 lbs per 1000 sq ft of sand.

Looks good. Mine was completely brown by February and i had wondered how the heck it's gonna recover. Now it's almost 100% green. Funny how that worked out...

Thank you for the summary post. This is a one month time lapse. Very cool.

As I recall you were a little frightened about slow green up and snow mold a month ago. Now you have a photo record of your situation. Notice that some of the trees leafed out five days ago. Also note that your grass was greening way ahead of the trees. Next year you don't need to worry about the grass unless the trees leaf out and your grass does not. Personally I think you did not need the first two applications of fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers need roots to be effective. Have you mowed yet?

You left out the snow pictures. That's fine. Just for completeness if you want to use organic fertilizer next year, you can apply it the day of the snow melt, or April 1st, which ever comes first. And I'm sure you will remember April 1st, heh, heh.

fourstringdrums, It's a lot of work...but rewarding if you have the Lawncare forum know-how! I took my plow off today and ran the dethtcher lightly over the front. Then picked up the loose stuff on 1/2 the lawn before I had to leave...what a difference! Let's see the pics

Nathan: thanks, but I don't care about the fogging on these ones. They are just testers, and I can see into them well enough to please myself. The glasses are all vases. The cylendar came from IKEA, the more shapely one came from Michaels (you can find them other places as well, they are the vases being sold as betta bowls with the plant growing on top), and the small bowl came from a thrift store. Ana: these ones are getting only natural sunlight. The tiny one is in an east window, not great light, but since it's only mosses, it's fine. The other two, being my temperate test terrs, are on my balcony facing west, but will be going into dormancy this winter (to see if that can be done). The cylendar I will be refridgerating, to see if that works, and the tall vase I will be leaving outside, though it will be insulated in a pot with some kind of mulch around it. So they won't be getting any light then, but they won't really need it either, since the plants will be dormant. I will let them go dormant naturally by leaving them both outside as the temps. cool. So as for a northern exposure, you are so close to the equator that that probably doesn't matter a whole lot. It should be fine, as long as you choose your plants accordingly. And I believe that somewhere in the long thread above, I say what plants I have in them.

Haven't Posted any pics in quite sometime. We are finished with drywall and paint. Trim is going in along with tile and finishing touches on electrical. Hope to get power moved from the temporary power pole to the house next week. Bathroom and laundry room cabinets should be in by end of this week (fingers crossed!) or maybe next week. Need to get flooring ordered and a thousand other things that I cant remember! Does anybody else feel like for every one thing that gets taken care of ten more pop up that you hadn't thought about!!! Here are some pics front elevation My columns I built Rear Elevation Love the "Coastal Crown Molding" Living view to out back Master bedroom with alternating stripes of flat and satin paint. This took me forever! But so worth it. Floor tile down in Master Bath Sewing/Laundry Room Upstairs Door being painted Stripes for our soon to be second son's room. These took significantly less time than the master bedroom! Practice! MichelleDt your house plan looks AMAZING!!! cbusmomof3 I agree about the not being able to look through the walls! I had to go back and look at framing pictures this weekend and everything looks so different!

Sorry, I've been AWOL for a while. Builder wanted us to be in SC next week for the MEP walkthrough, but the cabinetmaker hasn't gotten close enough to what I want in the kitchen, so we are delaying a week. Frustration on everyone's part, but we've spent so much time planning this house, I'm not going to be rushed into approving something for the kitchen that I am going to regret for years to come. Good news is that we have windows & doors. Our neighbor sent us a picture taken this morning: It really does seem strange to see it mirrored. I'm sure I'm going to get lost, because I've spent so much time mentally walking through it in the other orientation. Jo Ann

The "Cinco de Mayo" picture looks great! I love the emerald green color of bentgrass. I can't believe that in less than a month the lawn went from brown to green... My neighbor's Cavalier Zoysia lawn started to green up in mid March, and as of today, it's not fully green yet. I say it's about 60% green with about 15% winter damage.

dschall - Is there a correlation between the green up of the trees and the grass? I still have quite a few areas/patches of snow mold damage that haven't greened up yet, though I am seeing improvements. My neighbors lawn looks great already although he didn't have nearly any damage. However, my tree is just now budding. So if I understood you correctly, I shouldn't be worried unless the tree is already green and I still have problem areas? I keep telling myself it's still early yet but I don't know.
