oil starvation in 4 stroke engines
Comments (5)When a retailer refuses to sell you a lawnmower, there is very likely good reason. They are, after all, in business to sell, and they don't make any money when they lose a sale. He must have had previous experience with this engine failing in the field, due to oil starvation. On the other hand, folks have been mowing there lawns with 4-stroke, splash lubricated gas engines since around 1910, and 100 years is enough time for the manufacturers to figure out how to build an engine that will tolerate a 20 degree slope. In your situation, I would ask around, and make an effort to see what other people are using on sloped ground. Regardless of what mower you choose, keeping the oil level on the "maximum" line will help prevent oil starvation....See MoreTiller repower question, 4stroke to 2 stroke
Comments (5)slag, Depending on the model of tiller....Some of the Sears tillers (vertical crankshaft) used a friction clutch that requires a HEAVY flywheel. The length and spec on the crankshaft for these is not always the SAME AS that on a lawnmower. Therefore, it's not as easy as you make it sound by just "swapping" out the engine. GOOD LUCK !! Comments (16)The Easy Spin design is actually brilliant in its simplicity. It exploits the fact that at cranking RPM (relatively slow) the slight bump will allow enough time for compression to release past the slightly unseated valve, and that will permit the starter to "get the flywheel spinning" easier. As the flywheel begins to spin up, the volume of compression released decreases because the camshaft is now moving the "bump" past the tappet at a faster pace, so the compression has less time to leak out. When the engine has spun up to operating RPMs, the amount of compression released is virtually nil, because the bump passes the tappet so quickly. The amount of time for compression to actually release is directly proportionate to the RPM of the engine. The slower the RPM the greater is the time the bump actually spends in contact with the tappet....See MoreOil in 4 stroke engine- go kart
Comments (3)If the oil plugs are on opposite sides of the lower block, and screwed into a hollow tube like part of the casting, just remove one plug, and pour oil into that hole, until it won't take any more, then replace the plug! If you are using it for just plain running around the back yard, SAE 30 should be ok! for racing, somebody familiar with racing might be better able to advise you on the SAE of oil to use!...See Morebestf100
