Lower end ZTR ideas?
Comments (14)"The Cub and Troy Built are the same mower made by MTD. Sounds like you want a Hustler Mini Fas Track. My boss purchased one and is very happy with it. It is a homeowner version of a pro mower." Here's prices I got from one of the closest Huster dealers to me, about 40-50 miles away: all these Husters have welded decks, 19 hp Kawasaki 52" Mini Z $5,999 + tax 19 hp Kawasaki 42" Mini Z $4,499 + tax 18 Kohler 44" Fastrak $3,999 + tax clearance only 24 Honda 52" Mini Z $6,599 + tax clearance only Also got these prices from my Dixon/Toro dealer (7 miles away) good thru the end of August: Dixon Ram 50, 25hp B&S (Welded deck)$4170 + tax Dixon Ram 50 MAG, 20 Kohler (Welded deck) $4450 + tax Toro 52" 19 Kohler (Stamped deck)$4,599 + tax Toro 48" 20hp B&S (Stamped deck)$3,999 + tax OTHER PRICES from local dealers: Scag 24hp B&S 48" $5,995 + tax Ferris 21hp Kawasaki 48" $5,995 + tax Xmark 48" 18hp B&S $5,499 + tax Again, here's the problem, I didn't want to spend more than about $3,000 ,,,, but I also don't want to throw away my money on something that's NOT going to last so, I can go up to around to a MAX of $4,400 - $4,500 but my wife and I feel that's our max,,,,,,,,,,, I was able to use the neighbor's Dixon Ram 50 again today and really liked it BUT I'd like to here as many opinions as possible on Dixon and any others as possible before I barrow the money to get a ZTR mower of any brand. Thanks folks!...See MoreWhich ZTR ?????
Comments (10)I have been using my ZTR now for 9 years, and it is still very solid and working well. I have used it on 4 properties from 3 acres for 3 years, 1 acre for 3 years, 1/2 acres for 2 years and now for the last year, 3 acres all hilly and lots of trees. It handles the hills with ease and never gives you a feeling of turning over, the company doesn't even mfg. it with a roll bar. Read their view on ZTRs and hill side mowing. Admittedly it is biased and from their point of view, however, it is also accurate. I have driven other ZTRs on hills and none preform like this one. Scroll down 1/2 page to see the info on hill mowing. Here is a link that might be useful: Hill Mowing....See Moreopinions on buying ztr
Comments (6)My neighbor had the big 6' skag and loved it. Only problem ever was that "float wheel" (my term) on front of deck would scour yard under certain conditions and one broke off year two or so. Welded back on and talked of replacing with some type of pivoting wheels similar to front of tractor. Don't know if he ever did that, but know otherwise very happy and still using. Kawasaki engine also I believe and no problems. "Float wheel" is my term for the little casters on the front of the deck. On his Skag these only roll forward and back. Sharp turns under certain circumstances dug into yard. He has five acres and originally did commercial....See MoreBest ZTR for 4.5 acres
Comments (11)I was looking hard at the BadBoy Mower until my neighbor got a lawn service in to cut her lawn. They had a BadBoy Mower. The cut was terrible. Not just a little bad. I mean so bad that she was not going to pay them until they straightened it out. I realize that this may have been something wrong with that particular mower, but it turned me off big time. Too bad, because the BadBoy mowers really look like they are built very well. The one thing that I would keep in mind is that if you are a homeowner, your machine is probably not going to see anywhere near the amount of use or abuse that commercial mowers see. Yes, it is really nice to own the best, but when the best is double the price of that which is adequate, you have to pause and think. I would have to say, from what I have seen, that if you have up to about 3 Acres to mow, one of the higher rated ZTR's at around $ 4,000 would work very well. I have owned a Simplicity Lawn Tractor for many years and it has served me well. I am looking close at their Champion model. I also hear good things about the Swishers, in spite of their low price....See Morewayne440
