Suzuki Engine Surging, Tried Cleaning Carb

The Suzuki engine ran ok with partial choke on when the choke was fully opened the engine died. I cleaned the carb it now runs with the choke open but the engine surging from low to high rpm. The tension spring looked ok I did try to adjust the spring with no help still surging. Do I still need to clean the carb again or?

I don't know too much about the Suzuki engines but it sounds like a clogged pilot jet.

Orange: you were correct I removed the carb and removed the bowl creaned the jet inside the carb, it looked nice and clean and then I removed the jet on top of the carb. the holes on the side of the jet were very clean I did not know there was a very small hole on the tip of this jet I unclogged that with a small wire and whala that was it The mower works like new again. All is well again. Thank-you

Me and a friend both had this problem with our mower, they would only run on high speed and would pulse or surge at idle. Tried cleaning the carb but that didn't work, tried replacing all the gaskets, no improvement. Bought a new carb from Plano Power Equipment for a whopping $16, along with the governor spring and rod, spent about $31 total. Installed the new carb and it purrs like a kitten, idles, runs on any speed, just like new. I did also move the spring on the lower right that attaches to the governor lever from one hole to another. Seems the carb and associated linkage is very touchy, that's why I replaced the other parts but the carb may have had a clogged jet and I just didn't feel like messing with it so replacing it did the trick for me.

I just order a new carb $41 and that is even cheap for Canade where we get stiffed for everything we buy. Must be our national health care. Oh just forgot I now have a honda carb I can kick around the garage floor. later

Sounds like either your high speed mix is running a bit too rich or you have a problem with your governer, sometimes grass and crap gets balled up under the housing and messes up the linkage.

The "slop" may be either a loose blade (tighten the blade retaining bolt) or a loose/sheared woodruff key in the crank adapter that the blade bolts to (replace the 1/4" key). The crank itself wallowing around in its lower bearing support indicates bigger problems and the need to tear it down for inspection/rebuild. If you do have the Suzuki 47PZ2, you have a rare bird indeed. This was the first year of this engine series (1983) and the only year to use mechanical points triggered ignition. The following years 1984-2003, the 47P used solid state ignition, which used a small transistor mounted in the coil casing to fire the ignition ..which was prone to heat/vibration fatigue and often failed - see other threads on here & elsewhere about expensive 47P coil replacement and attempts to save them by heating them in an oven ..all thanks to that dime sized transistor that you don't have to worry about.

I used the Lawnmower today all I can say is what a sweet product, the engine is so sweet and the rear drive works like dream. What a great product considering itÂs a 1988 unit. I hate to sound like an old timer "they sure donÂt make them like they used to" I bought this mower for $25 spent $30 on parts and 4 hours of none stress tinkering.

These older 2 cycle mowers are a lot of fun. Too bad the EPA had to go and ruin things.

That jet on the side is the pilot jet like orange said. You pointed out one of the weird attributes of this jet with it's side discharge hole setup. The hole in the bottom tip is the small one that always gets stopped up. Glad you like the mower. They are good ones.

great mower i was thinking of getting one of these. Ebay has a very beat up one for sale near Columbus, OH but it would only be to salvage the engine. the mower is shot and the engine may not be worth anything either. pretty rough looking.
