LawnBoy 10323 ignition module replaced.

Hello all.

I just replaced the faulty CD ignition module on my LawnBoy 10323 today and she is again running like a champ.

I have owned the 10323 for three years and this CD ignition module failure has been the only trouble encountered.

The failed ignition module is LawnBoy part#99-2911 and it has PVL Germany make stamped on the unit.

(Probosch-Vogt-Loos) GmbH of Germany.

The replacement ignition module is Toro part#99-2916 and the package is labeled (Made in France).

I AM NOT here trying to put down the quality of any electronic products made in Germany or France.

I'm just happy with keeping my mowers operational.

My question is, are there any Toro/LawnBoy mowers being made in Germany or France?

toro got the orig cd pac from germany but due to a high failure rate switched supplires to france. the bad news is -they dont seem to last any longer and continue to have a high failure rate

Failing CDI Units have plagued Lawn Boy since they starter using them. Some here have said you can sometimes "bring them back" by heating them. Some use a torch heating the laminations until the Epoxy in which they are embedded start to melt, others have heated them in ovens. You might try this with your old one. I plan to try it as soon as No. 1 son brings a DuraForce back from storage at his house.

Another orphan mower has found it's way into my shed so the green one has to go. The ignition module is intermittant so it will drive you crazy if not replaced. Runs great when it feel like it. Nice machine otherwise. The first non-insulting offer gets it. Located in Barrington, Il. 60010

Replace the coil as previously stated. I never had much luck wasting time baking old ones. Until something better comes out, we are stuck replacing the stock ones. Regarding the surging, it is a common problem for the lean Duraforce carb but easily corrected. Take that pilot jet out and make sure the tiny orifices are clean. Use some real thin wire, like a single piece of stranded wire. Then reinstall snug, not loose. I would pull the carb off (only takes a minute!) and remove the four screws on the bottom and pull off the float cover. The main jet has a cup screen on it which pulls right off. Clean the main jet with the strand of wire as well and blow it out with air. Reinstall cup screen, float cover and carb. This should cure the surging. If you still have some surging, you can open them up a hair with a numbered drill set. This procedure has been discussed to death here as well as other sites. But if you get to that point and cannot find through search, repost and we will give you the add'l info.

Well, I shortened the fuel line just slightly so it's running entirely downhill. Recleaned carburetor, this time with a WaterPick (the kind you use to clean your teeth that shoots little jets of water -- my new favorite carb cleaning method, because you don't have to fear spraying carb cleaner in your eye and can watch whether the water's come out well or not). Unbent a staple and recleaned the holes in the carb bolt. In the process of disassembling and reassembling, I discovered that one of the screws holding the air filter housing had a flat tip, while the other had a cone-shaped tip. It struck me as odd that the flat-ended one was in the hole that had gas and air passing through it, so I reversed them and put the cone-shaped one in the hole that had gas and air going through it. Somewhere along the line, I seem to have solved the problem, because I cut grass with the mower for about 20 minutes and it ran fine. So thanks for all the tips. Now my only concerns are: 1) my ear senses that the mower seems to be running a bit fast, and 2) the mower is definitely very loud compared to other mowers (muffler dosen't have any obvious external defects or holes). For what it's worth, the exhaust air seems to be blowing out of the muffler with tremendous force -- none of my other mowers make flowers, etc. flap in the breeze like this one does. Thoughts?

I came across this post when I was troubleshooting a 10525 that a neighbor was having trouble starting. I was skeptical but I thought I would try the sanding off the rust and baking trick to ressurect her non-functional coil. Sure enough, it worked. Upon reassembly, the thing started up on the first pull. I knew that my fix might be temporary unless I did something to keep moisture from getting in the coil again so I took it off again and sprayed it with a couple coats of clear acrylic lacquer spray paint after masking the contacts. Only time will tell if this results in a somewhat lasting fix. If it doesn't last, I'll just have to order a 99-2911 replacement coil to get it fixed. Local prices for that part are around $40. subpar - Did you do anything to try to keep the coil waterproofed? If not, that may be worth trying the next time you bake it. ~Irish

I baked one at 200 degrees for 20 min and it did bring it back but by the time I got it back to the owner it was dead again.

Baking did nothing for my unit. I found one in Canada for $26.95 and FREE SHIPPING on Ebay. I called a local dealer and found it for $59.95. He said they are raising price to try to phase out the older mowers. As a comparison he said there is some kind of Honda transmission that was $110 two years that is now $480.00!! Ebay seller's ID where I got mine is Member id rocketcaptain186. Good idea to buy a spare, as they may not be available in 5 years. My mower is only 10 years old and this is the 2nd time I've had to replace it. First Lawn Boy I ever had was handed down to me by my mother 40 years ago and it was 20 years old then. I lasted another 10 or 12 years after that. They had the more reliable points and condenser then.
