I bought this shutter shelf at a country store in VT. Fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Thought I'd post the pic for all to see and "use." I made the Rooster Wreath (for you gals in OH, I got the rooster at a store called "Value City." It was only a few bucks. The idea for the small red colander planter came from my sis in Ohio. She used the moss and a real potted plant inside her's. Mine, is light green deer moss and some silk flowers and the little hen with tall, stripped legs (Flower Factory in OH, again you OH girls got it all out there).

I found two long door shutters just yesterday and can cut them into four shelves. I'd use a power painter to paint them. Also found four brown wicker chairs (pic later) and a coffee table. I just might fix them up and give them to my best friend Paula whose brother is building a wrap-around deck on her house. Or I might fix them up, new seats and covers is all, some cleaning, and sell them at a yard sale.

Simple ideas make the best, don't they. You're going to cringe and say no way, but I paid $50 for the shelf, yikes!!

That is too cute!

Yeah, we do have a lot of great stuff in Ohio. Value City is a close-out store. The flower Factory is amazing, there is one in Dayton (I live in Cincinnati- so it is about 1hr drive). You have to have a vendor's license to be a member. Luckily my in-law's have their own business and got me a pass in. WOW! I LOVE going there for stuff to decorate as well as for weddings, bridal showers, etc. The prices are great!

I got these little carved wooden duckies, they are so cute! It is two ducks snuggling eachother. I saw it and HAD to have it. (My husband and I just got married last September and bought our first home a week later!) It looks great on our front porch!

I feel sick. I'm lamenting the shutters I sold a few years ago in a yard sale. Bummer! That is very nice and you have it decorated up so nice. ~Anj

I understand your concern, but I think you'll find that it will look far less plain once your landscaping is in. New houses always seem a bit stark at first, especially if they're not in a wooded lot, because the area around them gets scalped by the construction. I think it's the bareness of the landscape that makes the house read as "naked," not the house itself. I like the shutters on the garage windows, but I don't like them on the dormers. I may be biased in that I grew up in an area of old (for the US, that is!) houses, and there were never shutters on dormer windows. It just somehow doesn't look right to me. I think it would be fine to have shutters on the garage windows only. Visually, the other windows are served by the porch and dormer eaves, so they don't seem to need framing in the same way.

Hoboken, I see that you have solved your problem in a lovely manner with the cafe height plantation shutters with 2.5 slats. This is what I have in my home, and I love them because we can still get the light, yet have full privacy when needed. Yours look great, BTW. I was going to suggest that if you were still wanting something more to “soften” the look of the windows, you could add a fixed fabric covered valance above the windows. You could place the top up at the ceiling height, and have the valance end right at the top of the window trim, thus not sacrificing any light coming in. What you’ve done thus far is just lovely.

I think the sofa will fit in just fine. The one in the picture obstructs the windows, and yours wonÃ¯Â¿Â½t, which is a benefit, IMHO. As for the lime green with white piping, that should fit into coastal themed just perfectly! Love the sofa!! Where did you find it, BTW, that style is exactly what I would like for our home, or I should say, dog, also. I need a tight back sofa because he lays on the upper back to look out the windows, and the pillow backed sofas get crushed.

Spoke with my Sis last night. Change of colors, she wants peach and dark reds/and dark greens to match the border in her basement sewing room area. I'm thinking peach with a little red highlight here and there hydrangea might be alright. I'll have to do some on a paper first and see what they look like - any ideas for peach colored floral, nothing to difficult please or super huge. Not roses, I painted a homemade flower box for her with pink flowers on a black background - she loves that black. Sal

A friend who was a dealer in collectibles and antiques, once told me a piece's true value is what it is worth to YOU. I was wondering at the time if I was paying to much for something I really wanted. You and your shelf are a good example. That's a really cool idea. And I love that rooster wreath. The rooster itself looks simple to make, might to have try that.
Let's see, find headboard & footboard for bench, find shutter for shelf, find washtub for the heck of it along with countless other things I've seen on here.........
get a new pencil and more paper, since my List now resembles something from those old horror movies. I can see it now. The To Do List That Ate Phoenix.

Hey,cool! Thanks for showing it, I love it! Yes,sometimes you need to get something already made,done,finished! $50 is not too much,think of all the $$$$$ saved by making everything else for yourself! :) I do love that rooster in the wreath,that's a great setting/

Love that shutter shelf!!! I got some shutters down the street from my dad. They were laying on the curb. Didn't know what I was going to do with them....now I do!!!
Love the roosters too. My kitchen/diningroom/living room is full of them!!

Hazimoon, I absolutely love your door shutters. They really complete the look. From what I can see, the front of your home looks lovely. Is that a garden bench over to the right under the window. If so, it's perfect there.

Ann, Get to working on your shutter shelf girl. My reason for buying it was I wanted something different on the walls instead of just pictures. I finally found a two more long ones and can cut them in half to make four. Not that I would put up four in my house, kinda tacky I think, but I could sell them or just give them to friends and family. And - LOVE THOSE ROOSTERS. My whole kitchen theme of roosters actually started with the room border. I will post a pic of kitchen clock later, you're gonna love it!

I'll have to try and post some pics of all my chickens and roosters. Mine started with a plate my hubby bought me in Tennessee.
