RED X instead of photos and other hints!

Those of you frustrated by the dreaded Red X . If the poster has changed that photo in their album in ANY way AFTER POSTING it on GW the photos disappear and the red X appears. So if you WANT to replace your photo with a red X that is the way to do it.

If you want it to remain in the forum for others to see you must be sure you have edited it to your satisaction BEFORE you post. It will save us all alot of frustrations.

Now all you other experienced poster,,,,,,please add your helpful hints.Thanks and lets Axe the X!!!!

I understand what you are saying but I did not touch my photos or do anything in my photobucket account after posting the pictures and still a couple people said they got X's.

That is only one way that I personally know to get the dreaded red X.But that is not THE ONLY way I am sure.
(Sheri,please don't think I am blaming you,,, it happens:-)
I have certain friends and for some reason we cannot send each other email with photos. Apparently our computers do not communicate as we only get red x instead of photos.I can send the same shot to other friends and they get the photos perfectly clear.
I do not use photobucket but use webshots so I am only familiar with how Webshots works. So my hope for this thread is that others will share what they know and we can get to the bottom of it and enjoy all yer pictures. Does photobucket have a place to send a question like that? That would be beneficial. As I said I am not an expert with photobucket so maybe someone out there is.
Hopefully others will hear our plea!:-)
C'mon all you junkers ,lets figure this thing out.

Hi again. I have 15 surviving seedlings that are mixed Red Lion x Susan and Red Lion x Appleblossom. I had a labeling accident in their second year of growth (the tags on the pots that the seedlings were in wore off and disappeared outside). I appreciate opinions on the parentage of my hybrids because I'm just guessing! It took me three years to get the hang of growing Amaryllis, and I lost many of my seedlings and my a few of my boughten bulbs to bulb rot in the process. I found out that the regular potting soil I was using held too much moisture and rotted the bulbs. I use quartzite (sold as chicken grit), turface (When i can find it), and perlite mixed with potting mix to give them better drainage. I also am very conservative with watering after repotting, during cool weather, and when they are indoors. I have not had any rot since! I started my seedlings in community pots and kept them there for almost 2 growing seasons, then I divided them into their own individual pots. I grow them under flourescent lights most of the winter. I grow my amaryllis outside all summer. I bring them inside in fall when there are frosts but keep them out in the sun as long as I can until it stays cold out. After I bring them in for good in late fall I put them in my root cellar and they go dormant after about a month. I wake them up and repot them if needed in mid February, then grow them under my HPS light until May when I put them back outside.

'What is your end goal?' Oh, 100 generations, maybe? Seriously, I'm trying to cross hybrids with one or other of their parents to try to approximate that original type, especially with varieties which are hard to breed, like Apple Blossom. I'm very excited to see a 2011 San Remo x Apple blossom in bud for the first time. When this flowers, I hope there will be another Apple Blossom in flower so that I can use the pollen to try to pollinate the hybrid and get some seeds which have the potential to be even more similar to Apple Blossom. It would be easier if the generation time was 20 minutes like bacteria, instead of 3-4 years!

In USDA 5 you should probably plunge the pot(s) into bark or sand instead of leaving them sitting on top of the ground. And yes, you want to plant Aesculus seeds while they are fresh. A place I worked at some years ago was offering potted, flowering size named A. x carnea that I remember now as being designated as 'O'Neill Red'. The grower had clearly sent them a batch of mixed seedlings due to the variation within them, primarily of flower coloring - perhaps this remains common practice with this particular selection. Point being yours may turn out to be generally similar to the parent.

I've wondered if photobucket has a time limit or something. I have a LOT of problems seeing pictures they host.

Goldenpond, I did not feel you were blaming me at all. I would like to make sure my posts are useful to all, so am happy to try to find out the right way to post pictures.

Gardenandcats, I was trying to figure out how to make the pics tiny but to no avail. Help, I am computer-challenge.

If any used Yahoo,well those would be gone now,since you need another photo hosting site. TinyPic is the name of one, I use Photobucket,and some use Webshots,there are others. Some of the posts are older,and some of the members no longer post and have moved their albums for different reasons. Sometimes it's not that the picture is moved, you'll just get the red "x" and need to refresh the page,when you come back you'll most likely see the pic then.
