I had just about every kind of weed possible in my new yard. I put some total vegitation killer all over the yard. I then waited 2 weeks and started putting out grass seed, and more grass seed. I also fertilized it after seeding. This spring my yard came in with awesome grass everywhere, it is so thick it feels like a carpet. This may be a solution for you, but need to wait until fall, at least that has been my experience. I don't have the time to till up the yard or to cut sod and replace. Stacie

I am making a flower bed 60 foot long by my new fence I am going to build. I took up an 8 inch stip of sod where the actual fence will be.I used a string, an 8 inch by 8 foot peice of plywood ,2 bolts 1foot long, an old skill saw and a WHACKY imagination!I used the string to mark the edge then layed the plywood down on the sod with one edge in line with the string. I had drilled a one half inch hole in each end of the ply which I pushed the bolts thru into the ground to hold it into place. Next I used my saw at full depth to cut the sod down each side of the plywood. Then I pulled the bolts and moved the plywood down and repeated. I used a flat shovel 7 inches wide and removed the sod. it made a perfectly strait strip of desodded lawn 8 inches wide. After I build my fence I will cut the other border of the bed and remove the rest of the sod. 1. An old saw which will never be the same after cuting dirt. 2.BE VERY CAREFULL USE SAFTEY GLASSES

I have a 10 year old boy and I have hear some of the same things you are talking about. I don't remember even being interested in boys at 10, but since I turned 40 this year, I realize that was back in the dark ages and everything is different now : ) LOL. I was shocked when my son started coming home and talking about so and so are going together and so and so broke up. I tried to joke about it and say "so where are they going together, where are they going?" Yes, I know, that is very uncool. LOL I just try and listen to him when he is talking with his friends in the car or when I ask him what is new at school and his friends. He recently "broke up" with his girlfriend. I asked him what happened and he said that she was too possessive and he wanted to be with his friends. I had to bite my lip from laughing and I just told him that he was right. He has lots of time for girlfriends and now was the time to have fun with his friends. The little girlfriend called our house at least 6 times from the time school was out until we got home at 6:00, leaving a message only once and then continuing to call and handing up when the voice mail picked up. I told my son that it was OK that she call, but that he should tell her that once was enough and not to call until after 7:00 when we were home and finished with dinner. She didn't listen very well and I was glad when she stopped calling. I was almost ready to call her parents. I think you are right in talking with her about what is going on and encourage her to stand up for what she wants and doesn't want even though other kids may be doing it. This is such a hard lesson for kids, but I think it builds strong character which will be so important later on. Kids are growing up so fast these days. We can do everything in our power to slow that down, but I am not sure it is doing much good. I hate to see where this is all leading to. Good luck

I'd love to, but we're hitting highs in the 90's up here as well. Regrettably, I have no cool weather to trade for some sweet, sweet rain! :-) Fortunately we're likely to get some this week. Hopefully. Maybe. If it doesn't all break up and fall apart again. Yep, roots on sod are short and can't hold much water, so it relies on us to supply it. Sod should be at least slightly damp at all times for the first two weeks or so, with water levels backing off slowly after that. However, sod/lawn will certainty tolerate or enjoy higher water levels for far longer periods of time. Pretty much, as long as the soil isn't flooded for days at a time, the sod will be perfectly happy. If flooded, the roots are denied oxygen, which they require to grow. But that doesn't sound like it's a problem.
