Engine replacement

I have an old (1986 or so) Snapper walk behind HiVac mower than I purchased to use as a lawn vacuum. Since the addition of the "wings" to the blade it does very well at vacuuming, as long as it is not mowing. When there is grass to cut the old 4HP bogs down and stalls. I already replaced the spark plug and checked the air filter.

So I am debating replacing the engine. This will be stretching the limits of my mechanical ability if I choose to go this route. I checked eBay and found a new Honda GCV160 for under $200 but it had this in the ad "This shaft does NOT have the two woodruff keys required for a Snapper" I also saw a 7HP B&S for under $100.

I have a GCV160 on my old Poulan and while the rest of the mower is falling apart, the GCV160 runs great.

So if I decide to replace the engine on my old Snapper,

What are these woodruff keys?

What else do I need to know?

Thank you
