'Surging' on Honda GCV 160 Lawnmower
Comments (7)"Would it be worth draining down the fuel and then running some sort of flushing through it. I am not mechanically minded so don't know whether that is feasible or not." I'd drain out the old fuel. IF your carb has the bowl drain nut, open that too so everything drains. Put in about 0.2-0.3 liter of fresh fuel. Add a STRONG amount of carb cleaner to the fuel. About 10x the recommended amount for "normal" use. Run the engine to use up the fuel. Hopefully it'll start to "improve" in a short time. When the engine is running well, top off the fuel tank and run a few minutes to dilute the strong carb cleaning solution from the fuel lines etc. Also make sure the fuel shot off valve id FULLY open....See MoreHonda Engine Surging, I Cleaned and Cleaned

Comments (2)Go to an auto parts store-buy several cans of Gunk engine cleaner and a parts washing brush. (Get the regular Gunk! The foaming stuff is not so good.) The brush will have short stiff bristles. A regular paint brush won't do the job. Then clean off the heavy grease and goop, then spray the engine cleaner "Gunk" all over the engine and its parts. Allow to set for 5-10 minutes, then using a water hose, give it a good bath, until it comes clean.(Do not use a high pressure machine that folks use to clean walks, and other stuff. It will insert water where you don't need it! Do this on a hot sunny day! After you get the whole thing clean and sprayed with the water hose, then move it into the hot sunshine, and allow it to sit and dry up. I do this to all of my stuff, and it doesn't seem to hurt it. Some who like to argue with this old bird, will take me to task for the preceding instructions, but its my way, and i ain't changing! And, WD 40 is NOT an engine cleaner! If your engine is Over-head valve, the valve cover gasket is leaking. And, the engine surging is caused by dirt in the inner passages of the carb. It needs a good soak in carb cleaner, and a complete disassembly for cleaning. Hope this helps some. Rusty Jones...See MoreHonda Harmony HRB215 Coil problems?
Comments (9)Your engine is a GXV140 (which is very similar to GXV120). Previous poster is correct. -801 is for larger GXV160, and -M04 is correct for GXV120 and GXV140. You need to replace coil with -M04 first. Then when you install correct coil, push it as far away from flywheel as slotted holes will allow and tighten screw. Rotate flywheel so magnets are lined up with coil armature. Put the business card between coil and magnets and loosen screws. Magnet should pull coil down on the flywheel. Retighten screws and rotate flywheel to eject business card. You should now have a gap of .008 to .010 withoout any metal-to-metal contact. If your source can't get you the correct coil, try the internet or try Plano Power. Plano has it, although not cheap. Their price is $79.98....See Moretomplum
