You really may want to wait to decide if you need a fan (albeit a prettier one than is there now) until the height of summer and see if the upstairs is sweltering. Thanks! Very helpful. My husband believes this style of light is unsuitable for moving around frequently (as frequently as every time we throw a party, let's say)... and that it's only suitable for when you do a major redecoration of the room. Is that true? I will still consult a lighting professional when we start the remodel, now that I have the right term for it (thanks again)... but am happy to hear from anyone that can weigh in on this point. Many linear lights have 2 cables or posts for hanging (like below) that keep both ends the same distance from the ceiling. For the one you show, with just a center post and a chain coming down to either side, I'd be worried about keeping it level. If it tilted just a bit to one side it would make me nuts, and depending on where the links in the chain are in relation to/connection with the center post, one side might be just a bit longer than the other. As for staring at the light bulbs, I'm not sure why that's a concern. I have clear glass shades on several lights, including my island pendants, and I never stare at the light bulbs. It's about hanging the lights at the right height (above eye level - and we're tall so guests don't have any trouble either.)
