It's a Schlum of a holiday

It's all GH's fault! That said, I'd like to share a few finds. I'd like to say that my Schlums all bloomed for me stupendously this year but to be honest, not one of them bloomed, not even a bud! So I had to rescue a few from various places so I'd feel like celebrating the holidays.

This is the first installment of Schlum blooms, with more to come as the days go by.

Beach Dancer, a new one for me, $4 at Trader Joes. The best price on 4 in pots I've seen this year. I've never seen this one before. I can't wait for the bloom to finally open.

A NOID orange I rescued from Walmart, the stems keep breaking off so I may have to repot the whole lot of them in a smaller container.

Stephanie, an older bloom but the colors are nice

and Victoria, a white from OSH. Whites are more likely to turn pink with the cold. The smaller Victoria I bought from Trader Joes does not have pink buds, so they must have come from different sources.

It really feels like the holidays now. I may share a few with my mom, but then again, she has her own Schlum. She doesn't need any more.

wahuh?! there's a Nichole Schlumb? I mean, with an 'h' and everything? Surely this must be the most beautiful plant ever to have such a beautiful name!

I'm gonna need this one, where did you find it?

oops,I spelled it wrong. I found "Nicole" a Trader Joe's. Last year I got it a HD, and I think I saw it at OSH also. It's a pretty common one. The tag says Sunlet Nursery Fallbrook CA. Whitton Greenhouse also has it.

Was at L's yesterday trying to buy wood-crafting tools they don't even sell (go figure!) and the few TC's left were on clearance. The $10 were $5 and the $3 plants were .50. Although there were several bigger ones with white, very white flowers, even I couldn't rationalize such a purchase with the present-budget. So I got 7 little .50 ones with the lightest colored buds. For $3.50, worth waiting for a year to see what they open to, assuming all of these buds will fall off as I'm expecting. I also picked up all of the broken pieces from the floor & stuck them in the tray. A few look promising, and total mysteries regarding flower color. Now, where in the world am I going to put these things? I'm pretty sure I'll be cutting more/bigger holes in the sides of hanging baskets & sticking them in those. Seriously no room for any more pots!

Holiday Gift Wrapping & Organizing: How Do You Do It???

excel spreadsheets? lists? rooms dedicated to wrapping? Sheesh that's far too organized for me. I thought just getting the ornaments organized by tree was a HUGE undertaking! For wrapping I use the desperately rushed, christmas is in 4 hours, need a bottle of wine approach. I spread out the entire mess of crap with a hole in the middle for me and the wine, and begin digging my way out carefully :p I actually am organized when it comes to the decorations though. I have one attic for trees, one for ornaments that go on the trees that are on the 3rd and 4th floor as well as the decoration, and then I store the decorations and ornaments for the first floor and second floor are kept on the second floor. Less hauling down (and up) stairs that way :) I also label the boxes for the appropriate tree which is helpful when distributing boxes around the house. WHile I can obviously see what's vintage and what's traditional as well as all the other themes of a tree through the plastic boxes, I don't know how many vintage go to each tree unless I put them in separate boxes. THat leaves me just enough ornaments for each tree without taxing my little brain. I wish I could apply that kind of organization to presents LOL I do actually wrap all but the Santa ones in advance (so that's the 23rd verses the 24th btw) and those can go out under the main tree. I have been known to buy the same thing more than once...perhaps that list idea is a good one LOL Gad a room dedicated to wrapping and holiday storage...well I'm a bit nutso over christmas (major santa barf is in EVERY room) so that would have to be a big big big room! But it's a lovely fantasy!

Stay inside! ROFLMAO! I think it is a ND state holiday! LOL Just kidding there. We were supposed to have no school as usual. BUT we got the 8 inches of snow last week and they canceled school. So Yesterday, yep opening day of deer season, there WAS a make up school day! LOL My DD and DSIL are out. I call the deer hunters the goon squad. LOL My DB's have went too, not the past few years though. DSIL has a gun and bow license.

Hmmm...I might still need it. I can always pretend. ; ) I'll have to go check TJ's out.

Sewnmom, Trader Joe's is actually a grocery store that has yummy organic and healthy types of food. Well, not all of it is healthy, they have some mean cookies!

I love the cranberry oatmeal "Dunkers" with white chocolate, yum! That's the only thing I buy that's not a plant.

I don't know if they sell stuff online, but they probably have a website.

(gasp!)...Why, Rhonda, those are BREATHTAKING! Especially that 'Beach Dancer'. You guys on the west coast are SO lucky to be able to find any of the Dancer series. Let me know if you ever want to trade your 'Beach Dancer'or 'Cyber Dancer' for any of mine!!! Is it Spring yet? :)

I'll keep an eye out for another Beach Dancer. I don't know if I could afford two more plants, (I did buy quite a few) but I'll let you know if I do. I'll try to get out tomorrow and check TJ's.

Menta, did you happen to see the new Martha Stewart mag, has CC growing in a wreath? Neat way to show off little plants, I think I'm going to keep an eye out for a bundt pant to drill holes in and use (they used wire form and moss-too much watering for me). Love your colors!!! Amazing how a little plant can give so much cheer! CJ
