My Doctor Goosed Me!!!

Oh! Wouldn't he be Horrified to know I said that on the world wide web!!!lol! I shall not name names as to protect the innocent!ha! We were talkining one day and I told him that I make garden art and said I would bring in a album/scrapbook of some of my projects, and he said that he had just bought a place, and his wife didn't like these 3 garden statues, and if I wanted them(insert question: does the bear...)So he brought them to work and left them behind the building...where 2 statues were stolen!!!!waaaaah! But this one was still in his trunk so he was able to save it for me! I went to get a pic for ya'll and realized I have these mosaiced eggs that would look good with her!!! She is like 2ft tall!!! I LOVE her!!!!

If the duck is the mother, it would be a shame to deprive the ducklings of their mother. Baby ducks need their mother to teach them to swim and eat like ducks. She has to rub oil on their bodies for them (from hers) to keep them from sinking until they can grow enough to produce their own. Is it possible to put the ducklings in a cage, set the cage near the area where you are seeing the duck to see if she/he shows interest without it being able to harm them? Make sure you watch from a safe distance so nothing else approaches/harms them. I have had ducks visit my backyard to collect the bird seeds that fall from my feeders. Hey Maggie, Thanks for keeping up with my woes:) I was very worried by Saturday. She was sitting by the pond and didn't really try to follow her buddies around much. She was even swimming using just one leg. I called around to a bunch of vets but the only one who does birds was booked for the day, of course. That said, even if he had a slot open, I don't think transporting her to town would have been an option. I did end up speaking with another vet who advised me to clean her foot with Betadine and keep an eye on it, suggesting that if it got worse that she may need an antibiotic. Well, since Miss Goose won't let us handle her, we've been tempting her with her favorite treats and squirting the Betadine while she eats. At this point, she's still limping heavily, but she's eating well and following her friends about the pond again. The black areas of her foot haven't spread, so I'm feeling hopeful:) The one thing I'm really taking away from this is that for geese, ducks, and chickens, you really are on your own when health issues arise. It's been frustrating and upsetting at times, feeling like I had no way of helping her or really even knowing how bad off she was. I really, really appreciate your thoughts and this thread, as it gave me a place to at least share my concerns and ask for the thoughts of others far more experienced than I am!

Well, I'm no expert, but here goes... My Buff did recover after about a ten days, but she has gone lame since then once or twice. I suppose there is an underlying weakness that will be chronic. Compare the feel of the two legs, paying attention to any spots on the injured leg that feel different or are hotter than the good leg. Check the bottom of the foot very carefully for splinters, sores etc. Swimming is good therapy for leg and foot injuries. The second time my Buff was lame I treated her to a "spa day" and let her swim in my bathtub and then lay about on a towel in the kitchen where she had a lovely time preening herself for at least an hour. It seemed to lift her spirits if nothing else and she began to improve after that. Maybe just coincidence... but she definitely had fun! That was in the winter. But if you can set up a swimming spot (maybe a kiddie pool) making sure it is easy for the duck to get in and out of, it would give that leg a chance to get stronger. And he will be happier too. Good luck with him... and please post again to let me know how he is doing.

Thanks so much everyone! This is a very fun hobby but it's difficult now to NOT buy glass at yard sales. It's so inexpensive and I like "playing" with it. So I expect that after another few yard sales I'll have enough glass to make more totems.

How cute!! Stinks the other two were stolen. Once people find out you "collect" potential garden stuff, if seems word gets around. People are now calling me when they need to get rid of things! LOL

This is the 3rd statue I have been given in 2 months!!! A gnome, a "future" fairey and now Goosey! WOW! AND I have this one lady who keeps dropping off tiles/stainedglass, and brought her daughter here for a garden tour!lol! Big piles of weeds thrown around and there they were...ohhh and ahhhing over the garden art!lol! Ya, too bad about the other two statues, they were another goose and a rabbit!!! grrr!

Awww, she's so sweet. Too bad she got seperated from her companions, but at least you have her. She looks perfect with the eggs. (I like the feet, too)

I've not seen one with a concrete shawl and bonnet. My friend has one on her deck she inherited from her mil (with holiday and seasonal outfits, plus she make some of her own), and she keeps her done up all the time. It's really cute and fun.

There is a house on the way to the store that has a bunch of concrete Canadian geese (adults and babies) they change the positions of, maybe when they mow. Always intersting to see where they are this month.

Statues are such fun. Free is the best. Love your Goosey!

Aahhh, that someone would goose me like that (tee hee). How precious and how sad that the other two got away. I'm betting another junker thinking they were trash. Thanks for sharing.

How adorable with those blue eggs! I love the vintage look of her. It sure sucks that the other 2 statues were stolen but I'm glad they managed to leave this one behind. Now that's a goosin' I wouldn't mind! he-he

LOLing about your doc and the subject line...tho I bet it would tickle him.
Goosey is adorable and perfect with the eggs. Love her look, vintage as others said.

Its sad the other two went missing. (especially the BUNNY. Waaaaah). I imagine if he set them out back, someone thought they were being discarded. I sure wish you'd gotten them.
