Save these Thompsons?

By now, it has been fairly well recognized that So. Cal. had an unusual summer - the GW posts proved it - a LOT.

Anyway, my Thompson grapes are "so confused" - they were planted a few years ago, and easily reached the top and across the sturdy arbor my son built at the time. Then - we decided to paint the arbor during summer - last, cutting the vines back away from the wood timbers. They didn't seem to mind - and even produced a few clusters.

Then the cool weather set in - mildew, etc., dropped leaves close to main stem, but with warm weather new growth spurts at the ends.

With fall almost here - sometime around Dec or so - I figure it normally should be pruned severely, but the poor thing is so confused.

Is there hope for this poor rascal?
