pear graft failure--help!!

mdclark

The majority of my pear grafts failed this summer. I think my scionwood had some sort of fungus growing under the wax and ultimately ruined my bench grafts. Does anyone recommend trying to regraft onto the rootstock this fall in the field? Is my rootstock now just innoculated with mycellium and spores and better off in the compost bin? Ultimately, I'm trying to rescue an heirloom tree before it loses its life. Are there other fall grafting suggestions? Sources for rootstocks? etc. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks
