I dropped a bottle a little hard over a piece of rebar and had broken glass all over. I use a dab of adhesive putty now on the end of the rebar before I put a bottle on it. (The same stuff you use to stick pictures, etc to the wall or woodwork--you get it in just about any store in the stationery dept). It works fine, and lasts a long time since the bottle protects it and it never gets wet. Modeling clay or something like it would work too. Sandy

What kind of reinforcement are you planning? If you are hammering rebar steel down in the ground first, then yes it should hold up. In areas with good loose soil keeping a heavy one (top heavy) standing straight may be difficult. If you are drilling holes through each piece of glass and threading them on a pipe, then being heavy should not be an issue. I've only used the marbles, which do add weight, on the totems that sit flat on the ground or upon a stone pedestal. So I do not know by experience. I use a stake for my teacup (light weight) bird feeder totems. The plates catching water is good for butterflies, wasps, bees (and mosquitoes if left standing too long). In dry weather it could be used as a bird seed tray. So the owner of the totem will have to pull it up out of the ground and spill the water out. After gluing the piece together I like to put my totems on a lazy susan. I twirl the totem around and smooth the glue with my finger to make it as airtight as possible. Sometimes I will glue marble blobs over the seams to hide the glue. susie

Woodsy, The first two actually fit together very well so I didn't need anything between them. Between #2 and #3 is the teapot top of #3 turned upside down. It fit inside #3 and attached to #2 quite well. I'n sure you could use some small saucers between the teapots if you wanted. You just want to have the holes in the tops covered somehow so water doesn'y get in and settle. My top teapot actually has some tiny holes on top so I just glued them closed. Kathy, her garden and setting were very nice. And she displayed everything very appropriately throughout the garden. I saw sold stickers on 3 of the very small totems ($45-$50 ones). I was there rather early in the sale, so don't know how she did the rest of the day. I often think that people ooh and aah over this type of thing, but only a small fraction actually buy (especially at those prices!!). A lot of times I think it's people like all of us who go to these looking more for inspiration and ideas than to buy. I may advertise my things and say that my prices are half of hers!
