lurker finds some treasures!

Hi All,

I found this site a few days ago and spent a whole day just lurking and in awe of all the talent here. You guys are truly amazing talented people. I can't wait to try my first flower plate and tea cup bird feeder! I just went to the garage to take out the trash and found some treasures that i hope to put in my garden that isn't quite ready yet. To be honest this will be my first garden. I could go on and on here but just got so excited when I found the treasures I had to tell someone. Of course the garage is filled with things from people that used to live here and never seemed to take the "junk" with them. LUCKY ME! Anywho, just thought I would share. sorry no pics, i have to dig them out and will post pics if anyone is interested. Thank you all for all the wonderful talents that you share here. ~Ellie~

First of all, welcome to the junk addiction. I keep saying that I am going to start getting rid of some of my junk and then turn right around and start hunting for more... :-)

Hello Lucy! Beautiful Desert Rose, hope mine will bloom one day. We made it back. It was a sad but good trip. All of DH brothers and his sister made it in for the funeral. DH's brother was a member of the "Rolling Thunder" Its a motor cycle group of Vets. They lead the procession. It sure was something to see. All those bike and flags flying! Anyway Waiting to let you know we are home safe and sound. A lot to catch up on. Have not even started on the emails. LOL Big Hugs Dorothy

I ordered some from Gardens Alive for $13.95. They arrived alive and ready to go after aphids. I can't say that they did a lot of good, or stuck around in my year, but I still find way more ladybugs in my yard a couple years later than I used to. I know everyone says using them outdoors doesn't do much good because they generally take off. And I don't use pesticides, so my beneficials may just be benefiting from that. Thank you Cheri for posting my pics. You are a very kind, warm hearted woman. As I said in my first post, you all are some of the friendliest people I have ever met. I will have more pics shortly, must learn to post them myself. I love this forum. I have taken to leaving earlier on trash day and scouring my own neighborhood. Other days I run around at lunchtime looking for "the goods." The small stool, does anyone know how to fix the rip in the seat, or replace it with something else. The child's doll crib, I think I will find an insert and use as a planter or for greenery and lights at Xmas time. The wicker set is so nice I will put it in my basement for furniture down there, especially in winter where the woodstove is. Bad idea, same room as the stove, will have to put a cast iron pipe on the stove for humidity. Have a great day/weekend to all. Sal Sal

finding treasures behind walls?

Behind the bathroom chase we found 2 different wall papers - we believe one is the original from 1825. We found a lot of old wallpaper behind stairs, trim, etc. - most from late 1800's. I made my contractor save it all and it will be framed and hung. Our walls were never painted - always wall papered and only 1 layer except for the kitchen. Above our 1st floor kitchen ceiling (and a foot below the 2nd floor floor was an old painted wide pine floor. It's been covered since 1914 and we believe it was from the 1840-1860's (when that addition was added). We will use this wood in the built in bench for the kitchen. We still have coal in the attic coal fireplaces used by the servants. I'm guessing it's over 100 years old. I tell my kids they will get that for XMAS if they don't behave. I kept telling my contractor any jewels or gold is mine. No luck. When we removed the stairs and added a main staircase we added a time capsule which included essays from my 2 kids (their daily routine - weekend and school day starting with waking up to the alarm clock, pushing the snooze button, turning on the light (150 years ago there wasn't any electricity), etc. plus their favorite books, movies, music, etc. I added our conversion/house remodel plans, pictures of the street and downtown area plus the local Sunday Boston Globe. I don't expect the stairs to be opened or moved for 100+ years.

Welcome from California Ellie!! (Yes, it IS 4am. Think I'm hooked on the Morning Joe news show, and don't go to sleep till I see some of it, lol).

Thank you all! Ha Ha. I just talked a friend of mine into going "shopping" Road Trip!!! Need more junk!!! I'm addicted! Can hardly wait to see what I find!!! Have a great day all.

Be sure to dig out those pictures and post them! One of these days, I am going to do something spectucular with all the junk I have collected. lol! Post what you found and then post what you did with it. I can't wait to see what you share!
