Lable those have runner now, and when fall arrive, check again and see those labeled plants have flower or not. Chances is they don't, which must be junebearing. As for plant vs bareroot, I found that bareroot is very very cheap. I got a bunch for $7, and there are easily 25 to 30 in that bunch, 80% of the bareroot ended up grow into healthy plant.

Seed of Change and Mountain valley Growers are the only truly certified organic crown sources in the country as Pranther Ranch in California stopped producing them because there were not enough buyers. Unfortunatly, so-called organic growers can purchase conventional crowns and grow them as organic, allowable by certifing agencies. Just like you can get around purchasing organic seed and using conventional because they are not "available or not enough quantity". Just like "free range, excess to outdoors", too many loopholes in the system. We need to change the system.

I'd love some advice on planting fall strawberries, I just received 50 Chandler plugs in the mail and I'm feeling a little panicky! Do they need to be covered with something to keep the hoppers off? What? And where can I buy it locally if possible? Would it be beneficial to hoop/cover them for the winter? I have one of my available beds hooped. What do you recommend for fertilizing strawberries? I hope to baby these through next summer, understanding they might not make it. They cost too much for me to rip up if there's a chance they might pull through with extra water and shade. I've read that pillbugs can be a problem with strawberries and my raised beds seem to have a LOT of pillbugs--do they eat the fruit or the plant itself? Solutions? I've read that they need to be mulched for the winter, does one mulch near first frost? Sooner?

rolling river was good but hartmanns I've got some ratty plants. nourse farms has good berry bushes too. just got some blackberry and raspberries from them. fedco in maine has lots of berry plants also. little more pricey but you get a bigger fuller plant. good luck!
