The easiest thing to do is fill the chips with crazy glue. 1. clean the area to be repaired with acetone. you will reseal the affected area when you are done. 2. put masking tape around the area to be filled right up to the edge of the depression. 3. fill the depression with crazy glue. the more you overfill it the more glue you will have to scrape away later. 4. after the glue sets take a new razor blade and, with the blade perpendicular to the stone, scrape away the excess until the repaired area is flush to the top of the stone. if u use the blade at an angle you will probably just pop the glue out of the depression. 5. polish the glued area with 000 steel wool. 6. reseal. if the glue pops out then repeat the process after making the depressions a little deeper with a sharp instrument. shallow depressions are one of the hardest chips to patch.

As owner of a granite shop I can assure you that almost any crack or chip can be fixed by a capable fabricator. However for very small surface chips, Cat Moms techniques is not all that different then a professionals. To fix a small chip in your granite countertop yourself follow these steps. Purchase medium viscosity CA glue (super glue) from a local hobby store. Should only cost about $4 - $5. Make sure the chip is clean and dry. Clean with acetone or nail polish remover. Depending on the stone you may want to darken the affected area with a marker (as cat mom did) or a crayon. For lighter stones, or stones with a lot of quartz this step is usually not needed. Apply just enough CA glue to completely encapsulate the chip, (you don't want to apply way too much or the next step will take a while) and wait for the glue to completely cure, (CA accelerators are sold which cure the glue immediately for less than $10 but be careful on light colored stones as they can create what we in the industry call a 'bloom' which is an ugly green stain which is very hard to remove. Take a single edge razor blade and hold it perpendicular to the stone, and with a quick back and forth motion 'shave' the glue off a little at a time until you remove all the excess glue. This process will only take a couple of minutes, and will result in a filled chip undetectable to the human hand. If desired the completed are can be polished up a little with extra fine steel wool or toothpaste. Hope you found this information useful. Thanks - unfortunately they are unresponsive and the company no longer exists shortly after finishing the job (we had so much work done to an older house it took me a while to realize the little things that were done poorly - I've learned that lesson of how to choose folks to work on your home the hard way. I realize this seems like a glaring mistake but it was a gap that didn't bother me too much at first, but got worse when we recently had to shim up the counter which was also poorly installed. Thanks for the paintable caulk suggestion - maybe I should try a caulk backing strip (or whatever those are called) and drywall putty if needed for the gouged looking part, then caulk and paint?

There have been similar pictures here over the years. Looks like the seal between your sink and granite has failed and water is seeping into the stone from underneath. Or maybe a tiny water leak? Until that is corrected, it will remain dark. Unless something drastic was spilled back there? How does it look and smell under the sink? Hopefully Joe will chime in.
