I saw this done on a show once. Very clever! First thing you have to do is decide where you want to put the teapot. In this instance they hung it out on the branch of a tree. You can hang it with fishing line so it will appear to float in mid air. You also have to attach a line to the back of it so that you can elevate the back of the teapot so the water flows out of the spout, just as if you were pouring it. Then you need to decide what is going to catch the water. You can bury a bucket or washtub, with the top of the bucket slightly above grade...or the top of the soil (so the bucket or catch basin doesn't fill with dirt washing in when it rains), make sure that whatever you use as a catch basin will hold a large enough volume of water to fill the tube all the way up...and then some! Cover that with some chicken wire and have some egg rock or decorative stones handy for later. Next, head to your garden center and find an appropriate sized pump according to the size of the bucket and the height to the top of the teapot (the pump has to have enough oomph to get the water up there and moving), and enough tubing to reach from the pump at the bottom of the bucket to the teapot adding about 5 feet or more depending on how far it is from the bucket to the trunk of the tree..you'll see why in the following step. Once the teapot is installed and the bucket buried, place the pump in the bottom of the bucket, plug in the tubing, lead the tubing through the chicken wire and over to the trunk of the tree and either wind it around the trunk a time or two and out on the branch on its way up to the teapot, or better yet, use more fishing line to secure it to the side of the tree out of view, and lead it to the teapot and into the top of the pot. If you have a lid for the teapot you can place the lid on and give a dab of silicone to secure, semi-hiding the tubing coming in. If you want to put a hole in the teapot, out of the line of site, you can silicone seal the tubing through the hole. (If you are going to do this I would be tempted to place the hole slightly higher than the anticipated water level to avoid any potential leakage.) Once the silicone has cured, fill the bucket w/water, plug the pump in, place the eggrock over the chicken wire, hide the tubing on the soil with mulch and prepare to amaze your friends! Well, thank you for that TREAT, calamity! Everything is looking BEAUTIFUL & ready to grow! Love everything that you mosaic...that adds so much color ...besides the plants you choose to put in them! And your fairy lady is gorgeous....I'm still looking for that style...no luck yet...I want to do her with shells/such for pool garden! Wow, in your GOG trellis (both sides) gardens...THAT is going to be something with ALL that you planted...should be glorious all yr round!!! Please share more pics as summer progresses! Great plant choices! Your 3 piggies is an original (for me, anyway)! Love terra cotte! Love how you displayed them! Wood block pansy hanger is another fav ...I have one, too...& they last outside FOREVER! Concrete Kathy, I almost never find teapots in my GW. Then I try to get them on half off day. The first one was with those two candleholders as a set, tho marked individually on their pricing. The plate that matches them so well came from Dollar Tree. Much later I found the identical teapots with the flowery spouts. Then finally the two smaller ones. I did see a pretty cup and saucer awhile back and grabbed it to make a little birdfeeder. I had actually forgotten it was in the garage till NMgirl mentioned it. So the glue is drying now, LOL. I'll add to the garden tomorrow. NMgirl, yes the little teapots are different heights on their stakes. Cait, I may be the only person around who can kill succulents! I've tried Hens & Chicks several times, and they hate me as much as flowers do. With our horrid heat and no humidity, guess I give them too much or not enough water. As for rain getting in spouts of the teapots, Jean.... RAIN?? In Phoenix??? Don't I wish. Tho Dec is our 'rainy month',LOL, and we got almost 2" a week ago from a big Pacific Coast storm. The three little teapots don't have openings in their spouts, they are just decorative. This little gnome garden stuff is pretty much out of sun, frost, and rain. There is a small decorative fern-like tree (jacaranda) growing in it, but my neighbor's towering old pine hangs way over my area too. So stuff is well protected. Cait, most of my gnomes come from the local Walgreens drugstore every Spring/Summer. Foxes, who'd think to look for a HOLE on the bottom of a teapot anyway? LOL. When I first saw them, and noticed the spouts not open and tops don't come off, I still didn't turn them over. But carrying them, I felt the hole and was thrilled to pieces at that! A lot of figurines at GW have holes on the bottom tho, so I always check. I've put nice Cherubs as toppers on rebar above my two tipsy pots. I decided the three little teapots can't be a totem, cause the pretty little tops would be hidden. I am just going to leave them "planted" as they are, I'm liking them a lot that way. ME TOO !!!!!!!! I love the whole area in fact, so delightful. That birdbath is wider than most I've seen, really like it a lot. Is it stone or resin?

oh thanks everyone and thank you all for your ideas!! Yes the bird bath is resin, easy to clean and move around when the mood strikes me. Was a clearance item at my local garden center, couldn't pass it up.

Not really new here, I've posted a few times. Mostly just a troll. I did get the totem idea here!! I am pretty active on the Bluebird and Bird Watching Forum's. I also like some of the gardening forums. Isn't spring grand???

Basically most people use GE Silicone II. You can get it at a home suppy store.

Here's someone else's partial post "If you are making a free standing totem, a large plate or bowl on the bottom helps to stabilize it, especially if you cover the plate with mulch or dirt. I quess the height is your own personal preference, you will know when it looks right. I have left mine out overwinter, but I live in the deep South and we rarely have hard freezes. Make sure all of your pieces are placed to where they do not hold water, unless of course you are making a bird bath. In other words if you use a saucer place it upside down."

Oh Wow!! I know what I'm making my gf for her birthday now! lol. She has a "tea garden"...all herbs that she uses to make teas...this will be PERFECT for her to put there. Thanks much for sharing your picture! You did a great job on yours!
